TV-Series
Description
Kaito Tsukigami is a first-year student in the Musical Department at Ayanagi Gakuen, later advancing to his second year. He comes from a family of exceptional theatrical talent; his father is a famous stage director, his mother is a leading actress representing Japan, and his older brother is a celebrated musical star and a graduate of the same academy. This prestigious lineage has long cast a shadow over him, as he is frequently compared to his older brother and others often assume he is simply riding on his family's fame.
Possessing a realistic and action-oriented personality, Kaito tends to value deeds over words and dislikes unscientific concepts like fortune-telling. He has a reserved and somewhat stiff demeanor, and he is particularly sensitive when the topic of his older brother is raised, initially reacting with visible irritation or anger to what he perceives as unwanted comparisons. Beneath this exterior, he carries a deep-seated need to prove his own worth and to be recognized for his individual skills and talent, not the legacy of his family name. He eventually admits that he has never been good at socializing and has always been somewhat shy; his older brother, understanding this, purposely took on the role of the sibling in the spotlight, a sacrifice for which Kaito is deeply grateful and respectful.
In the story, Kaito enters the high school division at the top of his class and is placed on Team Otori, one of the five elite teams led by a member of the prestigious Kao Council. His initial role within the team is that of a reluctant and aloof member who views his teammates, particularly the inexperienced Hoshitani Yuta, as noisy amateurs who could hinder his personal goal of surpassing his brother's legacy. However, a pivotal incident where Hoshitani defends him from an insult and both dive to save a bento box made by a teammate leads Kaito to a significant shift in perspective. He declares his new intention to aim for the top alongside his team, rather than alone. He becomes an unofficial vice-leader of Team Otori, using his high-level skills and studious nature to support the less-proficient members.
Kaito's key relationships are central to his development. His relationship with his older brother, Haruto Tsukigami, is complex but ultimately positive, built on mutual respect and care despite the pressure it causes him. Within Team Otori, he initially clashes with Tengenji Kakeru due to their conflicting views, but they come to acknowledge each other's abilities. He shares a comfortable, practical rapport with his roommate Shu Kuga, and has a long-standing understanding with Toru Nayuki, a teammate who knew him in middle school and is aware of his sensitivity about his brother. He also has a history of rivalry with Rui Tatsumi from middle school, who acknowledges Kaito's talent.
Throughout the series, Kaito undergoes noticeable development. He transforms from a solitary individual focused only on his own success to a committed team player who finds strength and purpose in collaboration. He overcomes his complex about his brother and finds his own individual path as a performer, distinct from his family's legacy.
Notable abilities include his exceptional overall skill, which earned him the top rank of SS in the entrance audition and placed him first in his class. He is a talented pianist, a skill he contributes to the team. Outside of performance, he has particular tastes, such as a fondness for strawberry milk made with a specific golden ratio. He is also characterized by his disciplined work ethic, a trait that leads some to call him a thoroughbred. His physical appearance includes short, straight blue hair, blue eyes, and an earring on his left ear. He stands at 168cm tall and has a birthday on November 4th.
