Description
Ginshi Shirazu is a young man introduced as a Rank 3 Ghoul Investigator and a member of the Quinx Squad, later becoming its leader. Physically, he is slender and stands 176 centimeters tall with a weight of 55 kilograms. He has short blonde hair, narrow eyes, and a notable feature of sharp, shark-like teeth. His appearance is often completed with silver earrings, and he wears a dark jumpsuit instead of the standard uniform, commuting on a large motorcycle during missions.

Born on March 8, Shirazu became a Quinx, a human implanted with a kakuhou to gain ghoul-like abilities, primarily to earn money quickly for his family. His younger sister, Haru Shirazu, suffers from an illness involving the excessive secretion of RC cells and requires expensive medical treatment. Following the suicide of his unreliable father, Shirazu took on the sole responsibility of supporting his sister, making her well-being his central motivation for joining the Commission of Counter Ghoul. He is also motivated by a general desire to exterminate ghouls, at least in the early stages of his career.

His personality is a blend of honesty and naivety. Shirazu tends to be straightforward, easily fired up, and speaks loudly, which can make him appear simple-minded or a bit dense, a trait that makes him susceptible to manipulation by his more cunning teammate, Kuki Urie. Despite this brash and sometimes aggressive exterior, he is deeply earnest and cares profoundly for the people around him. He prioritizes the safety of his squadmates above mission objectives, demonstrating a protective and compassionate nature. This sensitivity extends beyond his team; he is disturbed by the humanity of dying ghouls, which challenges his initial black-and-white worldview. He holds his mentor, Haise Sasaki, in the highest esteem, placing great trust in him and secretly dreading the possibility of Sasaki leaving the squad. He also appears to have a crush on his supervisor, Akira Mado.

In the story, Shirazu begins as an acting leader of the Quinx Squad under the Mado Division. Despite his initial naivety and a tendency to be reckless, his consideration for others and awareness of his surroundings lead Haise Sasaki to officially promote him to Squad Leader. His role in the team evolves as he takes on more responsibility, such as ensuring the lazy but talented Saiko Yonebayashi participates in missions. During the Human Auction Arc, he plays a key role in taking down the ghoul Nutcracker, earning a promotion and a rare Chimera Quinque from her. This encounter, however, plants seeds of doubt in him about the clear distinction between humans and ghouls. In the subsequent Rose Arc, haunted by trauma, he becomes withdrawn and loses confidence. Through the encouragement of his peers and a symbolic act of shaving his head to show renewed determination, he overcomes his psychological blocks and unlocks greater power for the Tsukiyama Extermination Operation. Ultimately, he sacrifices himself to hold off the powerful ghoul Noro, allowing his teammate Urie to land the final blow. His dying wish is for his sister to be mercifully put to rest. After his death, his body is stolen by the Aogiri Tree and dissected by the scientist Akihiro Kanou, whose research later enables the creation of more Quinx. His remains are eventually recovered and interred, and thanks to advances in medicine, his sister Haru is later healed, fulfilling his final wish.

His key relationships include a strong bond with his Quinx squad members, acting as a big brother figure, especially to Saiko Yonebayashi. He shares a deep rivalry and camaraderie with Kuki Urie, which grows from manipulation to mutual respect over time. His relationship with Haise Sasaki is one of profound admiration and trust, viewing him as a pillar of support.

As a Quinx, Shirazu possesses an Ukaku-type kagune, which manifests as an unusually solid, mountain-shaped projection capable of launching powerful missile-like projectiles. His RC level is measured at 920. Starting at a regulated frame output, he later unlocks a new power frame, increasing his strength. He is also a skilled driver of large motorcycles, using this ability for pursuit during investigations. His quinques include an early tail-type weapon called Tsunagi, and later the S-Rated Chimera Quinque named Nutcracker, which has both Koukaku and Rinkaku properties, granting it detection and explosive capabilities.
