Description
Chuck Mustang is a 24-year-old pilot serving with the Delta Platoon of the private military company Chaos, where his call sign is Delta 03. He is a native of the planet Ragna and belongs to the Ragnan species, a race of amphibious humanoids identifiable by physical traits such as webbed feet, gills on their necks, and distinctive barnacle-like formations on their heads. As a Ragnan, he is an exceptionally strong swimmer and diver. Outside of his military duties, Chuck helps run a family restaurant named Rag Nyang Nyang, which serves a fusion of Chinese and local Ragnan cuisine, often taking charge of the kitchen.
Within Delta Platoon, Chuck serves as the cheerful mood maker and is known for his friendly, easygoing, and flirtatious personality. He frequently attempts to charm the women around him, though his advances are almost always rejected without causing him any lasting frustration. He is also one of the first members of the team to warmly welcome the new recruit Hayate Immelman, treating him with genuine kindness from the start. Despite his laid-back demeanor, Chuck is a dependable and capable individual who takes his responsibilities seriously, both as a pilot and as an older sibling. He has four younger siblings—Marianne, Zack, Hack, and Elizabeth—and acts as a supportive, if sometimes put-upon, elder brother.
In combat, Chuck pilots a specialized VF-31E Siegfried variable fighter configured for electronic warfare, reconnaissance, and early warning. His primary role in the Delta Platoon is not frontline dogfighting but rather operating sensitive sensor equipment to detect and analyze Var Syndrome, a dangerous phenomenon his unit is tasked with countering. He often flies with Reina Prowler, the hacker from the tactical sound unit Walküre, in his rear seat, coordinating their electronic warfare capabilities to support the team. When the battle for his home planet of Ragna erupts, Chuck faces a personal crisis when his sister Marianne goes missing during the chaos of evacuation. This loss, and his subsequent desperate search for his family, becomes a significant emotional driver for him, highlighting his deep loyalty to his loved ones. Over the course of the conflict, he demonstrates resourcefulness and bravery, playing a small but vital role in key operations by using his fighter's fold gate capabilities to enable a successful infiltration mission. His story resolves on a hopeful note, as he is ultimately reunited with his missing sister and the rest of his family.
