Movie
Description
Mirage Farina Jenius is a pilot for the private military contractor Chaos, assigned to its elite Delta Flight which escorts the tactical sound unit Walküre. She comes from a renowned lineage: the granddaughter of legendary pilots Maximilian Jenius and Milia Fallyna Jenius, daughter of Miranda Jenius, and niece of Fire Bomber vocalist Mylene Flare Jenius. Of mixed human and Zentradi descent, she is recognizable by her pointed ears and purple hair. She previously served as a pilot in the New United Nations Spacy, but felt uneasy about killing enemies and was drawn to the power of song. Captain Arad Mölders scouted her for Chaos, offering a role focused on protection rather than destruction.
Mirage is deeply serious, prideful, and duty-driven, often placing work above leisure. This rigid sense of responsibility clashes with her more easygoing colleagues. She finds comfort in writing in her diary and caring for her pet Mercat, Q-Lulu. Her family’s heroic reputation weighs on her; she respects her grandparents immensely but feels pressured by constant comparisons to their genius. This insecurity is compounded by her own textbook, by-the-book piloting style, which lacks the improvisational flair of the truly gifted.
In the story of the movie Macross Delta the Movie: Passionate Walkūre, Mirage is one of the main pilots of Delta Flight. She is assigned as the training officer for the new recruit Hayate Immelman, a role she initially resents. Their opposite personalities—her disciplined approach versus his free-spirited nature—lead to frequent clashes, but over time they learn to trust each other and become effective partners on the battlefield. The pair are even nicknamed the “bomb combo.” She also develops a close friendship with Walküre member Freyja Wion, with whom she shares a room.
Mirage’s personal arc involves shedding the weight of her family legacy and finding her own identity as a pilot and leader. During the movie’s climactic battles, she loses her VF-31C Siegfried and is forced to commandeer an enemy SV-262 Draken III, repainting it in Chaos colors. Her greatest growth comes when she realizes that her strength lies not in being an ace fighter like her grandparents, but in leadership: she has a talent for reading the battlefield and coordinating her team. She steps up as Delta Flight’s commander when Arad is wounded, proving that her true value is in guiding others rather than seeking personal glory. By the end, she finds her own “sky” and gains confidence in her role.
As a pilot, Mirage is highly competent but limited by her rigid adherence to procedures. She is noted to have weak right-rear situational awareness, a flaw that persists until late in her development. However, she is capable of handling advanced variable fighters and shows adaptability when forced to pilot unfamiliar machines. Her notable abilities include sharp observation, a methodical approach to combat, and the eventual emergence of strategic command skills.
