TV-Series
Description
Gorone Negoro is a young man who, due to an inability to use his legs, is confined to a wheelchair. Despite this physical limitation, he becomes a central figure in the hidden ninja village where the story takes place. He serves not only as an adoptive father figure to the young Kouga clan members but also as their teacher of ninjutsu, guiding their development and ensuring they understand the complexities of their world.
His wisdom is rooted in pragmatism and a desire to move beyond the bloody history that has defined the Kouga and Iga clans. In the early days of the children's training, he is seen reminding them that their current fights are not for the honor of their respective clans, Kouga or Iga, but for the sake of their young leaders, Hachirou and Hibiki. This philosophy underscores his primary motivation: to protect the next generation and steer them away from the cycle of revenge and hatred that decimated their predecessors.
Gorone’s role is that of a strategist, inventor, and the calm center of the group. He is highly skilled in inventing and refining weaponry, demonstrating technical expertise that supports the ninjas in combat. He is credited with designing the specialized armor worn by Shikibu Koura and is shown repeatedly modifying Hachisu's gun to improve its performance. In a moment of crisis, when an intruder threatens the village, Gorone takes charge, leading the young leaders Hachirou and Hibiki to safety through a secret tunnel he had prepared in the mountain. His foresight and protective nature are key aspects of his character.
His key relationships are predominantly with the children he mentors. He shows particular concern for Hachirou and Hibiki, recognizing them as the symbolic and actual leaders who can unite their fractured peoples. He also has a deep investment in the team's success, often acting as the coordinator for their missions. Later in the narrative, when the group decides to confront a powerful enemy structure known as the Murakumo, it is Gorone who devises the plan of attack, providing them with cannons and weapons from a mechanized vehicle he operates.
Gorone demonstrates notable development through his actions, transforming from a supportive background figure into a frontline combatant when his family is threatened. In the final confrontation against the illusion-wielding enemy Neiri Chiou, Gorone deploys his own invention, firing long barbed projectiles that successfully sever the enemy’s arm. However, this act of bravery costs him his life, as he is killed during the attempt. This sacrifice serves as a crucial catalyst, spurring the young ninjas to unite and risk everything to complete their mission and rescue their comrades. In the manga source material, his abilities are also shown to include great proficiency with acupuncture, through which he is able to attain a more muscular physique to fight, differing from his portrayal in the anime.
