Description
Mikochi is one of the two main protagonists of the story, a quiet and reserved young woman who serves as the domestic anchor of her household. She comes from a large family, having lived in a different town with her parents, an older sister named Ayune, and other siblings before eventually moving to a city where she met her roommate and best friend, Hakumei. Her background is one of stability and a close-knit family, which contrasts with Hakumei's more solitary and wandering past.

Personality-wise, Mikochi is described as kind, feminine, ladylike, and serene. She possesses a calm and patient demeanor, tending to be a homebody who prefers the comfort of her own space. She is a logical thinker and is not particularly athletic, often leaving more physically demanding tasks to Hakumei. Mikochi is known by everyone in the shopping district and gets along well with others, but she also values peace and quiet and dislikes being disturbed. Her primary motivations revolve around maintaining a warm, orderly home, caring for the people she loves, and pursuing her creative crafts. She takes pride in her domestic abilities and finds deep satisfaction in cooking, sewing, and making various goods.

Mikochi's role in the story is to provide a grounding, domestic counterbalance to Hakumei's energetic and adventurous nature. While Hakumei works outside as a craftswoman, Mikochi manages the household, doing most of the cooking, cleaning, shopping, and baking. She also generates income by producing and selling handmade soaps, candles, and baked goods at the local market. Her presence creates a stable and welcoming home for the two of them, and her expertise in food preparation makes her well-known and respected in the town of Arabi.

The central relationship in her life is with her roommate Hakumei. The two are best friends and polar opposites: Hakumei is a tomboyish, impulsive carpenter, while Mikochi is a reserved, ladylike homemaker. Despite their differences, they share a very strong bond, often being mistaken for a married couple due to their close, complementary dynamic. Mikochi genuinely cares for Hakumei's well-being and worries when she is in danger. Another significant relationship is with the songstress Konju. Initially, Konju viewed Mikochi as a rival in singing, but after Mikochi helped her recover from a cold, the two became good friends, sharing skills like making honey waffles and scented soaps. Mikochi also maintains a close, if occasionally exasperating, relationship with her older sister Ayune, a playful playwright who likes to tease her. Within the community, she is well-liked by shopkeepers and neighbors such as the tavern master Kobone.

Mikochi does not undergo dramatic character development in terms of a personality shift. Instead, the story reveals more about her past and her capabilities as she navigates daily life alongside Hakumei. Her development is seen in the deepening of her friendships and her growing confidence in her social and creative pursuits, such as her singing.

Her notable abilities are centered around domestic and artistic craftsmanship. She is an exceptional cook and baker, earning her the informal title of "goddess of the kitchen" within her community. She is also skilled at sewing and making clothes, as well as creating candles and scented soaps. In addition to her crafts, she has a beautiful singing voice, which makes her popular in town and leads to her being chosen to perform at the harvest festival alongside Konju. Unlike Hakumei, she is not physically strong or athletic, but she compensates with her practical knowledge, patience, and resourcefulness in household management.
