Description
Arion Sherwind is the central protagonist of the Inazuma Eleven GO series, including the film Inazuma Eleven GO: Kyūkyoku no Kizuna Griffon. As a first-year student at Raimon Junior High, he serves as a midfielder and eventually becomes the captain of the Raimon soccer club, wearing the number 8 jersey. His element is Air, which complements his swift and agile playing style, specializing in dribbling and possessing remarkable speed on the field.

Arion grew up in Okinawa, where a pivotal childhood event shaped his future. While trying to save a puppy from falling wooden planks, Arion was rescued by the legendary soccer player Axel Blaze, who used his soccer ball to deflect the danger. Arion kept that ball, drew the Raimon symbol on it, and adopted the puppy, naming him Spotter. He also formed a close friendship with Skie Blue during this time. Motivated by this memory, Arion trained obsessively, often practicing alone with Spotter, with the singular goal of joining the Raimon soccer team.

Arion's personality is defined by an unshakable optimism, a boundless love for soccer, and a humble, energetic nature. He is frequently compared to the original series' protagonist, Mark Evans, for his cheerful demeanor and never-give-up attitude. His passion for the sport is so profound that he often personifies the soccer ball, treating it as a friend, a quirk that initially confuses or annoys some of his more cynical teammates. His signature catchphrase and personal mantra is that everything will work out somehow, reflecting his wide-eyed idealism and determination. Despite being timid around those he admires at first, his pure-hearted belief in real soccer and his friends makes him a natural leader who inspires those around him.

Within the story of Kyūkyoku no Kizuna Griffon, Arion plays a critical role as the captain of the Raimon team, which has openly rebelled against Fifth Sector, an organization that manipulates soccer matches. The team is sent to a mysterious island called God Eden for a training camp that turns out to be a trap set by Fifth Sector. After a crushing defeat against the island's team, Eternal Light, Raimon is saved by the sudden appearance of Mark Evans and former members of Inazuma Japan. Under their guidance, Raimon prepares for a decisive match against Team Zero, the island's ultimate team. It is in this climactic match that Arion, alongside his key rivals-turned-allies Victor Blade and Riccardo Di Rigo, fuses their respective Fighting Spirits. Arion's Heavenly Horse Arch Pegasus combines with Victor's Heroic Swordsman Lancelot and Riccardo's Master Conductor Maestro to create the powerful fused Fighting Spirit known as Griffin, Lord of Birds and Beasts. This ultimate technique is used to counter the combined power of Team Zero's players, Bailong and Tezcat, who also fuse their spirits to create a mighty avatar. The match concludes in a dramatic 5-5 tie, demonstrating Raimon's success in proving the value of true, unscripted soccer.

Arion's key relationships are central to his development. He shares a deep, childhood friendship with Skie Blue, who is often the voice of encouragement and support. His best male friend is JP, whom he met on his first day at Raimon and with whom he shares a very close bond. The dynamic between Arion, Victor, and Riccardo forms a classic power trio: Arion represents the idealistic speed and heart, Victor provides the brooding strength, and Riccardo offers balance and strategic command. Initially antagonistic, Victor becomes one of Arion's most important allies, and Arion is often the first to extend trust and friendship to him.

Throughout the series, Arion undergoes significant growth. He starts as a talented but raw player who admits dribbling is his only real skill. Through relentless training and challenges, he awakens his own Fighting Spirit, Winged Steed Pegasus, which later evolves into Heavenly Horse Arch Pegasus. His experiences as captain, including moments of self-doubt where he fears he has been overworking his teammates, help him mature into a true leader. His journey is not just about improving his skills, but about his mission to protect and restore the true, untainted spirit of soccer against organizations like Fifth Sector and, later, time-traveling entities like El Dorado.

Notable abilities include his hissatsu techniques, which often utilize his speed and the wind element. Examples include his dribbling move Soyokaze Step and shooting techniques like Mach Wind and God Wind. Beyond his standard techniques, his ultimate power lies in his ability to manifest a Fighting Spirit. He is unique for possessing and evolving his Pegasus spirit and for being one-third of the fusion that creates the legendary Griffin. In later storylines such as Chrono Stones, he also gains the ability to use Mixi Max, fusing his power with historical figures like King Arthur, and can Armourfy his Fighting Spirit for even greater strength.
