Description
Cye Mouri, known in Japan as Shin Mouri, is the Warrior of Water and the bearer of the Armor of Torrent. He is the oldest of the five Ronin Warriors, though he is often depicted as one of the smallest in stature. His family is descended from Mouri Motonari, a famous naval general from southern Japan. For generations, the Mouri clan held the responsibility of protecting the Hagi Sea, a duty that deeply connects Cye to his aquatic heritage and the source of his power. His father died when he was very young, and he was raised primarily by his mother, who has a weak heart and sustains the family through their traditional pottery business, and his older sister, Sayoko. As part of his training to become the head of the family, Cye was instructed in the use of the spear and the bow. At the age of fifteen, he performed a rite of passage by diving deep into the Hagi Sea, where he discovered the Torrent armor in a crevice with the help of his orca friend, Suiki.
Having been raised in a household of women, Cye developed a very polite, gentle, and considerate personality. He is often the calmest member of the Ronin Warriors, acting as an emotional anchor for his friends. His hobbies and interests reflect his serene nature; he enjoys cooking, tea ceremonies, flower arranging, basketball, and swimming. He notably dislikes eating whole fish, a personal quirk that contrasts with his elemental affinity for water. Despite his peaceful demeanor, Cye possesses a deep well of protective ferocity. When his friends or innocent people are threatened, his rage becomes quiet, focused, and highly dangerous, lasting longer and proving more powerful than the loud anger of others. His core virtue, which his armor embodies, is Trust or Faith. This virtue is central to his character, as his arc frequently revolves around his trust in his own purpose and in his fellow warriors.
In the story of Ronin Warriors: Legend of the Inferno Armor, Cye’s internal conflict becomes a primary focus. At the start of this arc, he expresses a strong desire to put aside his role as a warrior, hoping that the days of fighting are over. When a new enemy, Mukala, emerges, Cye hesitates to rejoin the battle, questioning why the Ronin must continue to sacrifice their freedom and lives for conflicts they did not choose. This hesitation proves critical; his reluctance to provide his power to Ryo allows Mukala to capture both Ryo and Sage. His resistance to fighting causes a heated clash with his best friend, Kento, and the strategic Rowen, leading Cye to temporarily run off on his own to reconsider his duty. Ultimately, his sense of loyalty prevails. He uses the restorative powers of the Torrent armor to travel to Africa, heal his exhausted and wounded friends, and help them recover their strength. In the final confrontation, his powers are instrumental in purifying the corrupted White Inferno Armor, reaffirming his role not just as a destroyer but as a healer who can cleanse evil and mend spirits.
Cye shares a particularly strong bond with Kento, who is his best friend and a constant companion. Kento’s brash and headstrong nature is frequently tempered by Cye’s patience and calm reasoning. He shares a steadfast bond of mutual respect with Ryo, the group’s leader, often providing emotional ballast. His primary adversary among the Dark Warlords is Sekhmet, the Warlord of Venom, representing a direct opposition between the elements of water and poison. In the Torrent armor, Cye is immune to Sekhmet’s poisons and can even purify water that has been contaminated.
The Armor of Torrent is light blue with yellow and black details. It features an amber visor that allows the wearer to see clearly underwater. The armor draws its power from water sources; in or near water, Cye can swim with ease in currents as strong as level four rapids. His primary weapon is a yari, a spear that functions as a combination of a trident and a man-catcher, the prongs of which can close to grab opponents or cut through obstacles. He also carries a tanto dagger on his back as a secondary weapon. His signature special attack is the Super Wave Smasher, known as Chou Ryuu Ha, which unleashes a devastating, horizontal pillar of water from the tip of his yari. Throughout his character journey, from the initial war against Talpa through the trials of the Inferno Armor, Cye evolves from a gentle warrior who accepts his duty to a young man who must actively wrestle with the psychological toll of perpetual violence, ultimately reaffirming his vow to protect others and embracing his unique power as both a destructive force and a source of healing.
