Description
Natsume is a student at Yamabuki High School’s art department and belongs to the same year as Sae and Hiro, though she is placed in class B while they are in class A. She first met Sae on the day of the entrance ceremony and initially hoped to become friends, but the class separation made it difficult for them to grow close. This early encounter colors much of her behavior throughout the series. Natsume has a distinctly tsundere personality, especially in her interactions with Sae. She frequently adopts a combative, rival-like posture toward Sae, snapping at her or issuing challenges, yet these actions are undercut by clear signs of admiration and even a crush. She often regrets her own harsh words and struggles with self-consciousness about the way she acts. With people other than Sae, she is generally polite and composed, and she can be warm and friendly with her own classmates. Her insecurity about her relationship with Sae is a recurring part of her character, and it occasionally leads to moments of self-reflection. As a supporting character, Natsume appears in multiple seasons of the anime, including the third season Hidamari Sketch × Hoshimittsu, where she continues to interact with Sae and the other residents of the Hidamari Apartments during school events and daily routines. She does not live in the apartment building, so her presence is tied to school settings. Her role in the story is primarily to provide contrast to Sae’s more easygoing nature and to add a layer of unspoken romantic tension to the group dynamic. Natsume does not demonstrate any extraordinary or supernatural abilities; her notable trait is her skill as an art student, though specific artistic talents are not highlighted in detail. Her development is subtle, seen in the gradual softening of her attitude toward Sae over time as she becomes slightly more comfortable expressing her feelings.
