Description
Masataka Ashiya is a supporting character in the anime Hiiro no Kakera, known for his enigmatic presence. He first appears early in the story at the shrine, where the protagonist Tamaki Kasuga meets him. He claims to be a businessman, but his true purpose in the village remains ambiguous throughout much of the series. Masataka is also the uncle of Kiyono Takara, Tamaki's classmate and friend.
Physically, he is a tall man with short brown hair and brown eyes, and he is almost always seen wearing a white shirt, tie, and dark suit, often with glasses. He is sociable and fond of rice crackers, and he has an interest in reading palms and faces, which adds to his mysterious demeanor. Despite his friendly exterior, he does not easily inspire trust, as he often observes events from a distance without directly intervening.
Masataka's role in the story is that of a silent observer. From the background, he watches the conflict surrounding the Tamayori Princess and the magical sword Onikirimaru, and he seems to have some connection to the bond between the Tamayori Princess and the Monado spirits. He is not a direct participant in the battles, but his presence suggests he knows more than he reveals. His motivations are never fully explained, leaving him as an ambiguous figure who may be aware of more than he lets on.
In terms of relationships, he is close to his niece Kiyono, but his interactions with the main cast are limited. He does not undergo significant personal development over the course of the series, remaining a constant, mysterious observer. His notable abilities are not supernatural; instead, his skill lies in reading people through their palms and faces, hinting at a perceptive and perhaps even cunning nature.
