Description
Pegasus, also known as Pegasus Seiya, is the main protagonist of the animated film Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary, a CGI retelling of the Sanctuary story arc from the original Saint Seiya universe. He is one of the eighty-eight Saints who serve the goddess Athena, and he fights as the Bronze Saint protected by the constellation of Pegasus. Like all Saints, he draws his superhuman power from Cosmo, the inner life energy that connects a warrior to his guardian constellation and to his Cloth, the sacred armor worn in battle. In the film, Seiya is a young Bronze Saint around sixteen years old whose Cloth takes the form of the Pegasus armor. Away from combat he dresses in casual modern clothing, including a sweatshirt, a coat, and a dog tag marked with the Pegasus constellation symbol, which serves as the vessel for his Cloth.
In the story of the film, Seiya is introduced as one of the warriors chosen to protect Saori Kido, the reincarnation of the goddess Athena. He first appears when he saves Saori from an assassin sent to kill her, and he is soon joined by his fellow Bronze Saints as her guardians. In the climax of the film, Seiya confronts the Pope, who is revealed to be Gemini Saga, a Gold Saint who faked his death years earlier and now plans to take control of the universe. By burning his Cosmo to its limits, Seiya reaches the Seventh Sense, an advanced state of awareness that grants him strength on par with the Gold Saints. When Saga merges with a colossal statue and threatens to destroy Athena, Sanctuary, and the Earth, the Sagittarius Gold Cloth manifests on Seiya, transforming him into Sagittarius Seiya. With this power, he rescues Saori and destroys Saga with a powerful arrow, saving Sanctuary and the world.
