Description
Andromeda Shun is a Bronze Saint who serves the goddess Athena and is the younger brother of Phoenix Ikki. He is known for his gentle and kind disposition, deeply reluctant to engage in violence, yet he is considered one of the strongest among the Bronze Saints. His pacifist nature means he avoids conflict unless absolutely necessary, but he becomes a formidable fighter when compelled to act. Shun trained on Andromeda Island, where he endured the Sacrifice of Andromeda: chained to sea cliffs and forced to free himself before the rising tide drowned him. Unlike others who relied on strength, he broke the chains through his affection for his estranged brother, demonstrating his empathetic approach.

Shun wields the Nebula Chains, which symbolize his non‑lethal combat philosophy. He uses them with telekinetic precision for binding, defense, traversal, and delivering electric shocks. His techniques include Thunder Wave, Rolling Defense, Nebula Stream, and Nebula Storm. He manipulates Cosmo, the universe’s primordial energy, granting him superhuman strength, speed, agility, durability, and accelerated healing.

In the Galaxian Wars, Shun faced Unicorn Jabu, using his chains defensively. He later joined Pegasus Seiya, Dragon Shiryu, and Cygnus Hyoga to recover the stolen Sagittarius Gold Cloth from Ikki, helping restore his brother’s humanity. During the Sanctuary arc, he confronted Gold Saints, briefly awakening his Seventh Sense to escape Gemini Saga’s dimensional illusion. He later defeated Pisces Aphrodite using Nebula Storm, avenging his master Cepheus Albiore, though he collapsed from Aphrodite’s Bloody Rose attack. In the battle against Poseidon, Shun defeated Marina General Io of Scylla and later Siren Sorrento, choosing to imprison rather than kill him because he believed Sorrento retained goodness.

The Hades arc reveals Shun as the unintended human vessel for Hades, the God of the Underworld. His pure soul made him a suitable incarnation. A childhood pendant concealed this connection; its loss allowed Hades’ soul to merge with Shun’s body. During the conflict, Shun showed maturity and strategic insight. He later allowed full possession, sacrificing his body to create an opening for Ikki to strike Hades. After Hades abandoned Shun’s body for his true form in Elysion, Shun joined the final battle alongside the other Bronze Saints, where their Cloths evolved into God Cloths to confront Hades and his subordinates.

Shun’s appearance is noted for its androgynous beauty, with feminine facial features. The manga depicts him with brownish‑red hair and blue eyes, while the anime shows green hair and eyes. When possessed by Hades, his hair turns black in the manga and reddish in the anime, his skin grows paler, and his eye color shifts. His casual attire often includes a green shirt and white overalls. In other continuations, Shun is designated the future Virgo Gold Saint, and after sustaining a dark wound that seals his Cosmo, he becomes a wandering doctor, mentoring younger Saints while still fighting when necessary.
