Description
Kirius, whose full name is Larks Lestorine Hakirius, is a main character from the planet De Metrio. He is nineteen years old and comes from a family of fallen nobility. As a pilot serving under the commander Villagiulio, Kirius is a member of the organization known as KISS, and he operates alongside his two close comrades, Izo and Array.
With a very serious, strict, and rigid personality, Kirius often interprets the actions of others in an overly earnest or erratic way. His straightforward demeanor can make him seem initially antagonistic, but he is fundamentally loyal to his friends and driven by a strong sense of duty. He is highly skilled in swordsmanship and confident in his abilities.
In the story, Kirius is part of a trio from De Metrio who travel to Earth. Along with Izo and Array, he made an oath to Princess Yurikano, vowing to protect their home planet from a conspiracy orchestrated by the Le Garite forces. To fulfill this mission, he pilots his exclusive Ovid unit, a mecha named Libertas. His role shifts over time; he begins as an opponent to the main character Madoka but eventually becomes a crucial ally in the battles over Kamogawa.
His key relationships are central to his character. He forms a tight-knit trio with Izo and Array, having been classmates with them at the Royal Military Training Aviation Academy on De Metrio. Their bond is strong, and they are often seen together, whether on a mission or sharing personal moments. Kirius also develops a significant, though initially indirect, relationship with Madoka Kyouno. While he starts out fighting against her, his interactions with the people of Kamogawa lead to a change of heart, and he ultimately becomes a defender of the town. His loyalty to his commander, Villagiulio, is also a key driver of his early actions.
Throughout the series, Kirius undergoes notable development. He begins as a rigid soldier strictly following orders, but exposure to Earth's customs and the people of Kamogawa softens his personality. He shows a hidden fascination with Earth’s culture, even if he draws unconventional conclusions from it. After the resolution of the major conflicts, Kirius makes a significant life change. He chooses to leave his military life behind and settle on Earth in Kamogawa. There, he finds employment at Hiroshi's beachside cafe, where he works as a waiter dressed in butler-style cosplay, a role that proves surprisingly popular with the female clientele. This transformation highlights his adaptability and his ability to embrace a peaceful, civilian life.
As a pilot, Kirius is formidable, known for his strength in combat and his prowess with a sword. He is a capable and strategic fighter, piloting the Ovid Libertas. His notable abilities lie in his disciplined combat skills and his unwavering determination in battle, which are essential in the fights to protect De Metrio and later Earth.
