Description
Lan is an alien princess from the planet Le Garite who arrives on Earth with the mission to protect the human girl Madoka Kyouno and the ancient robotic aircraft known as the Vox units. Her full name is Laffinty Fin E Ld Si, though she goes by Lan. Raised in a luxurious royal household, she has little practical understanding of everyday commoner life and often adopts phrases from bizarre or unexpected sources, leading to endearing misunderstandings. On her first day at school, unfamiliar with Earth customs, she greets everyone with a woof, which becomes a memorable quirk.
Despite initially appearing slow-witted, Lan is actually sharp and perceptive. She has a clumsiness that contrasts with her occasional bouts of embarrassment, particularly over her secret hobby of writing poetry. Her unique personality makes her popular among her classmates. She frequently uses the polite phrase roger that in her speech.
Lan’s motivations are rooted in her duty as a guardian, but she also seeks personal connection. She becomes jealous when she perceives that Muginami, another alien girl, shows too much interest in Madoka. This jealousy prompts her to join Madoka’s Jersey Club and move into the same house, deepening her bonds with both girls.
Her role in the story centers on piloting the Vox Rympha, which she names Orca. Initially, she struggles to control her Vox unit because she is paralyzed by fear of a prophecy about the tragic fate that awaits all Vox pilots. Madoka helps her overcome this fear, allowing Lan to unlock her full piloting abilities and become a reliable fighter in the ongoing interstellar conflict.
Over the course of the series, Lan develops from a sheltered, anxious outsider into a more confident and integrated member of the group. Her key relationships are with Madoka, whom she admires and protects, and Muginami, whose rivalry with her eventually matures into mutual respect. Through these connections, Lan learns about friendship, trust, and what it means to fight for something beyond duty.
