TV-Series
Description
Ramurin Makiba, known in Japanese as Makiba Ramurin, is a sheep girl and one of the closest friends of the main character Shimajirō in the anime Hakken Taiken Daisuki! Shimajirō. She is a classmate in the same kindergarten group as the other central characters and was part of the Shimajirō television franchise from the earliest series onward, before leaving the regular cast in 2012.

Her background places her in a family with a father who works as an artist and researcher and a mother who stays at home, and her household is presented as comfortable and somewhat well-to-do. Her father eventually travels to France to continue his painting research, which is also described as the home country of her mother, and this leads to the whole family moving there. Her departure is handled through a dedicated farewell episode in which she says goodbye to her friends, and this episode also closed out the television series that followed Hakken Taiken Daisuki! Shimajirō. After moving away, she makes only occasional brief reappearances in later franchise material.

In personality, Ramurin is a mentally mature and dependable child who often carries a big-sister presence among her friends. She is described as tomboyish and physically active, though not as aggressively so as the character who later takes over her place in the group. She has a sharp eye for suspicious behavior, and her trademark phrase is an expression of suspicion that she uses whenever someone seems to be plotting something. She is quick to distrust shady schemes and is observant enough to notice when something is wrong. She is also a reliable child who rarely forgets promises or misplaces things, a trait that sets her apart from some of her more scattered friends. Earlier in the franchise she was portrayed as a gentler, more feminine and slightly spoiled young lady, but her characterization was later adjusted to make her more assertive and distinct from another girl in the main cast. She is also shown to be skilled at drawing and painting, while her physical confidence meets a limit in swimming, which is presented as her weak point.

Her motivations center on friendship, curiosity, and helping those around her. She takes part in the group's discoveries and everyday adventures, supports her friends when they face problems, and shows a strong sense of responsibility toward promises and obligations. She also carries an ambition connected to her artistic talent and her father's work, with becoming a painter as a stated dream, and her family's move to France is tied to that same artistic world.

Her role in the story is that of a main supporting friend within the kindergarten group, joining Shimajirō and the others in their daily experiences and lessons. Her most notable story arc is her departure, where the theme of moving away and parting from close friends is explored in an understanding way. The farewell itself is presented as a meaningful moment of growth for her and for the characters she leaves behind, and she gives a personal keepsake to one of her friends as a token of their bond before she leaves.

Her key relationships are with the main group of friends, especially Shimajirō, with whom she shares many adventures, and with the other central girls and boys of the class. She is particularly close to the girl who is her fellow classmate, and the farewell scene emphasizes the strength of that friendship through the gift she leaves behind. Her relationship with her parents is warm and supportive, and her father's career is the reason for the family's international move.

In terms of development, Ramurin changes noticeably over the course of the franchise. Her early portrayal as a quiet and ladylike child gives way to a more energetic, sharp-witted, and dependable personality as her role is refined. Her appearance also evolves over time, with her early look featuring a ribbon and a work-style outfit, later replaced by a bandana and a vest, and finally by a colored shirt and skirt combination in her later appearances. Her departure marks the end of her development within the regular series, though she returns briefly in later media during moments of nostalgia and celebration.

Her notable abilities include her artistic talent, particularly drawing and painting, her strong observation skills and intuition for detecting dishonesty, and her physically active nature, which makes her capable in sports and rough-and-tumble play. Her main limitation is swimming, which she struggles with despite her otherwise sturdy and energetic character.
