Akane Hino, also known as her alter ego Cure Sunny, is a passionate and energetic second-year student at Nanairogaoka Middle School. She hails from Osaka and speaks with a distinctive Kansai dialect, referring to herself as “uchi.” Her family runs an okonomiyaki restaurant called Okonomiyaki Akane, where she often helps out, and she enjoys cooking. A dedicated member of her school’s volleyball team, she aspires to become its ace attacker. Akane has a tomboyish demeanor, a strong sense of humor, and a fondness for making puns and jokes. Though she can be blunt and impulsive, she is fiercely loyal to her friends and has a soft spot for cute things, especially gorillas. She transformed into Cure Sunny after witnessing Cure Happy (Miyuki Hoshizora) being defeated by an enemy called an Akanbe; gratitude for Miyuki’s support during volleyball training awakened her powers. As Cure Sunny, she wields fire-based abilities and possesses immense physical strength, excelling in close combat. Her signature attack is Sunny Fire, which she spikes toward enemies like a volleyball. Her appearance features orange hair and eyes, a pastel orange dress with feathery sleeves, burnt orange shorts, and white boots. In crossover films, she joins other Pretty Cure teams to confront powerful enemies such as Fusion, emphasizing teamwork and large-scale battles.
