Description
Jody Summer is a central supporting protagonist in the anime F-Zero Falcon Densetsu, serving as the captain of the Mobile Task Force, an elite unit dedicated to stopping the criminal organization Dark Million. Before leading the task force, she was an officer in the Galaxy Police. Jody is the one who initiates the series' main premise by reviving the protagonist, Ryu Suzaku, from a 150-year-long cryogenic sleep to aid in her mission.
Jody possesses a serious and commanding personality, befitting her role as a leader. She is stoic, fearless, and strict, often losing her temper when her direct orders are ignored, especially when such insubordination leads to serious consequences. Despite her stern and sometimes domineering exterior, she is a compassionate and kind individual with a good judge of character. She cares deeply for the members of her task force, developing a motherly fondness for the young hacker Clank Hughes, and she is known to be somewhat sensitive about her age. Her primary motivation is to uphold justice and dismantle Dark Million, a goal that is deeply personal.
A key aspect of her background is a traumatic incident that occurred three years before the main story. During a confrontation with the Dark Million agent Zoda, her older brother, Andy Summer, pushed her out of the way of a rocket launcher blast. Andy was seemingly killed, while Jody survived but suffered grievous injuries that required half of her body to be replaced with cybernetics. She was rebuilt by Dr. Stewart, another member of the task force. This event fuels her determination and explains her protective nature towards her team.
The most significant revelation in the series is the identity of her brother. The legendary bounty hunter and F-Zero pilot known as Captain Falcon is revealed to be Andy Summer. Jody spends much of the series unaware of this fact, though she is haunted by his memory. Upon discovering the truth, she mourns for the brother she lost a second time when he sacrifices himself in the final battle against Black Shadow. Despite her grief, she feels great honor in being the sibling of such a hero and ultimately encourages Ryu Suzaku to take on the mantle of the new Captain Falcon. Her other key relationships within the task force include a professional dynamic with Dr. Stewart and a history with Jack Levin, a former street thug she once chased and who reformed his ways after her act of mercy.
As a partially cybernetic being and a skilled combat pilot, Jody is a formidable operative. Before her injuries, she was already a top combat pilot for the Galactic Federation, recognized as a hero by her peers and chosen as a spokesperson. These abilities carried over into her new role. She pilots a machine named the White Cat and is known for her incredible ability to control speed. She is also a capable racer, having participated in and won the F-Zero Ladies Race, earning the title of Miss Galaxy. Her white and pink jumpsuit and teal blue eyes make her a recognizable figure, and a notable rivalry exists between her and the Dark Million operative Miss Killer.
