Description
Jet Link, designated Cyborg 002, is a central character from the long-running manga and anime franchise created by Shotaro Ishinomori. A native of the Upper West Side of New York City, 002 was a teenager and the leader of a street gang. His life took a drastic turn during a violent confrontation with a rival gang, the Sharks, when he accidentally killed one of its members. While fleeing from the police, he was captured by agents of the criminal organization Black Ghost, who offered him escape before forcibly converting him into a cyborg soldier.

Personality-wise, 002 is often brash, impulsive, and quick-tempered, acting as a rebellious counterbalance to the more level-headed team leader, 009. He is openly sarcastic and is not afraid to state his opinions, even when they clash with those of his comrades. However, beneath this tough exterior lies a deep loyalty to his team and a protective, friendly nature, often assuming the role of an older brother figure. He can be laid-back and mellow at times, but his past experiences have left him with a profound hatred for Black Ghost and underlying trauma related to the accidental killing he committed as a youth.

His primary motivation is the destruction of Black Ghost, the organization that abducted and experimented on him. Within the team, he serves as the primary aerial combatant, using his flight abilities for attack, rescue, and surveillance. His role in the story often sees him engaging in high-speed aerial dogfights and using his speed for reconnaissance. Key relationships include a friendly rivalry with the protagonist, 009 (Joe Shimamura), whose leadership decisions he sometimes questions but ultimately follows. He also shares a close bond with 004 (Albert Heinrich), confiding in him about the burdens of being a cyborg.

Throughout various incarnations of the story, 002 undergoes significant development. Initially depicted as a simple delinquent, he evolves into a more complex figure grappling with the loss of his humanity and the endless nature of his battle. In some storylines, he attempts to retire from fighting to pursue careers as a Formula One racer or a youth counselor, though he is inevitably drawn back into action. In a pivotal moment from the original manga, he famously sacrifices himself by flying into space to rescue 009, only to be saved at the last moment by the psychic powers of Cyborg 001.

His most notable ability is cybernetic flight, achieved through jet thrusters built into his legs. This allows him to fly at speeds of up to Mach 5. He is also equipped with a prototype Acceleration unit, which grants him temporary bursts of super-speed, though it is less advanced than 009's. Due to his lightweight frame, which is necessary for flight, he lacks the raw physical strength of some other cyborgs. Before his capture, he was a proficient street fighter, and he maintains expert marksmanship skills, often dual-wielding special Super Guns.
