Description
Deathscythe, the Knight of Darkness, is a central antagonist from the Super Deformed Gundam anime series. Known originally as Deed, the Knight of the Shining Blade, he is a Knight Gundam from the kingdom of Lacroa who betrays his homeland and allies to side with the invading Dark Axis forces.

Deathscythe's background is one of tragic betrayal. In his original identity as Deed, he was a respected member of Lacroa's Royal Guard and the best friend of the series' hero, Zero. Despite his noble position, Deed harbored a deep, obsessive love for Princess Rele. This love, bordering on obsession, drove him to darker ambitions. After Zero was sent away on a mission, Deed secretly masterminded the downfall of Lacroa. He manipulated the knight Tallgeese and formed an alliance with the Dark Axis to invade the kingdom, seeing the invasion as a means to win the princess's heart and seize power for himself. To hide his identity and gain more power, Deed merged with a being known as the Steel Dragon, taking on a new, fearsome form and the alias of Deathscythe, the Knight of Darkness.

His personality is defined by his grand ambition and his intense, possessive love for Princess Rele. While he presents a loyal and reassuring facade to his fellow knights, his true nature is that of a master manipulator and a traitor. His ultimate goal is not just to rule Lacroa but to use the power of the Superior Dragon to become human, believing that only then can he rightfully stand beside Princess Rele as her king. He sees other knights, including his former friend Zero, as mere servants unworthy of the princess, and he expresses contempt for anyone he considers inferior.

In the story, Deathscythe serves as a major adversary for the Gundam Force, particularly for Zero. Initially appearing as a mysterious, cloaked servant of Tallgeese, his true identity and role as the architect of Lacroa's fall are revealed over time. He creates a fake princess from a rose to lure Zero and his allies into a trap within the Garden of Knowledge. There, he reveals his past and his grand plan to use the White BaguBagu to revive the real Princess Rele, positioning himself as her hero and savior. His schemes are ultimately undone when his own creation develops a conscience and by the direct intervention of his former comrades.

Key relationships define his character arc. His most significant relationship is with Zero, his former best friend and now bitter rival, whom he betrayed when he sided with the Dark Axis. His entire motivation revolves around Princess Rele, whom he seeks to possess and rule beside. He also has a crucial relationship with Tallgeese, whom he tricked into allying with the Dark Axis; Tallgeese later seeks revenge for this betrayal. Deathscythe also created a fake, artificial version of Princess Rele to serve as his pawn.

Deathscythe undergoes little change in his core motivations, but his development is revealed through the unveiling of his tragic past and his ultimate downfall. His plans crumble when his allies turn against him and his manipulations are exposed, leading to a final, personal duel with Zero where he is defeated as the Steel Dragon abandons him.

In terms of abilities, Deathscythe is a skilled magic user. His most notable power is a cloaking spell that allows him to become invisible, usually appearing as a green hologram or a shadowy bat-like figure with only his yellow eyes visible. When he finally reveals his true, uncloaked form, it is described as fearsome. His power is augmented by his forced fusion with the Steel Dragon, and he is also capable of creating artificial life, as demonstrated by his creation of a fake Princess Rele from a rose.
