Description
Fujiwara no Takamichi is a nobleman serving as the Vice Minister of Civil Affairs in the government of Kyou, a world that parallels the Heian period. He holds the position of a chibu shōjō, an official responsible for managing the family registers of aristocrats. As one of the chosen Eight Guardians, known as the Hachiyō, he bears the title of Byakko of Heaven, the White Tiger of Heaven. His elemental attribute is Heaven, and his dragon jewel, a mark of his status, is located on the right side of his neck.

Takamichi possesses a serious, calm, and studious personality, underpinned by a strong sense of justice and a chivalrous nature, especially towards women. He is known for his thoughtful and deliberate approach, preferring careful consideration over impulsive action. Despite his mature and adult-like demeanor, he can be somewhat naive and has little immunity to the advances of women, a trait that fellow guardian Tachibana no Tomomasa often teases him about. Takamichi despises all forms of discrimination and notably holds no prejudice against the Oni clan, despite them being the primary antagonists.

Born as the illegitimate son of an aristocrat and a lady-in-waiting, Takamichi was taken in and raised by his father's primary wife at the age of five. He respects his stepmother deeply for the love and care she provided and is motivated to become an exemplary official to honor her, firmly refusing to use women for social advancement as was common in the noble society of his time.

In the story, Takamichi's central duty is to protect the Priestess of the Dragon God, Akane Motomiya, whom he considers profoundly precious. He is constantly attentive to her welfare and develops strong romantic feelings for her. However, his deep sense of duty and responsibility leads him to struggle with acknowledging these emotions, creating an inner conflict that is a key part of his character development. This tension sometimes causes friction with others, such as Tomomasa, who confronts him about his true feelings. Ultimately, he confesses his love to Akane and decides to remain by her side.

Takamichi maintains professional and cooperative relationships with his fellow Eight Guardians, including Minamoto no Yorihisa, Abe no Yasuaki, and Eisen, as well as with Akane's companions from the modern world, Tenma Morimura and Shimon Nagareyama. His primary adversaries are Akuram, the leader of the Oni clan, and the oni shirabyōshi dancer, Shirin. He shares a particular enmity with Shirin, who once attempted to seduce him but was rejected. In one notable encounter, he injured her in combat but then showed a surprising degree of compassion by bandaging her wound.

Beyond his combat role as a Guardian, his abilities and knowledge are reflected in his work in the palace, which includes duties in the archives, highlighting his diligent and meticulous character. Throughout the narrative, he serves as a stable and balanced presence within the group of protectors dedicated to defending the capital of Kyou from the encroaching Oni clan.
