Description
Miyagi, whose full name is Touhoku Miyagi, is a supporting character in the anime Papuwa and its prequel Nangoku Shounen Papuwa-kun. He is a member of the Ganma Army and often appears as a comedic antagonist or bumbling ally. In terms of background, Miyagi hails from the Tohoku region of Japan, as his name suggests. His personality is marked by a notable lack of common sense and a gullible nature, which leads him to be portrayed as a stereotypical dumb blond in the English dub; however, beneath this facade lies a capable strategist. He has a deep mastery of written Chinese, a skill that is essential for wielding his unique weapon, the Brush of Literalization. This oversized calligraphy brush has the power to transform any target into whatever Chinese characters he writes on it, making the effect dependent on the written command. Miyagi's motivations are typically aligned with the goals of the Ganma Army, though his actions are often driven by simple-minded loyalty and a desire to prove himself. His role in the story is that of a recurring supporting figure who provides both obstacles and comic relief through his misunderstandings and literal interpretations. His key relationship is with Tottori, whom he considers his best friend, and the two frequently work together. Over the course of the series, Miyagi does not undergo significant personal development, remaining a consistently foolish yet oddly skilled character. His notable ability, besides his strategic thinking and Chinese literacy, remains the Brush of Literalization, which he relies on in combat and for various gags.
