Description
Orion Jagger, also known in some translations as Orion Jäger or Orion Yaga, is a character from the anime film Saint Seiya: Evil Goddess Eris, serving as a member of the revived Ghost Saints, specifically as one of the Ghost Five. In life, Jagger was a powerful Silver Saint who protected the goddess Athena during a past Holy War. His strength was so great that he was revered as the strongest warrior of his era and a true hero. However, after his death in battle, his name and achievements were gradually forgotten by the world, leaving his soul to harbor a deep bitterness and resentment over this obscurity.
This resentment defines his personality. When the evil goddess Eris is revived in the modern era, she offers Jagger a new life and a chance to reclaim his lost glory, an offer he accepts without hesitation. Upon his resurrection, Jagger demonstrates a cold and condescending demeanor, particularly toward his fellow Ghost Saints, whom he views as weak and worthless after they are defeated by the Bronze Saints. He is a warrior of immense pride and confidence in his own abilities and shows no pity toward opponents he deems unworthy. His driving motivation is not loyalty to Eris but a selfish desire to once again stand at the pinnacle of power and prove that he is the mightiest of all Sanctuary warriors.
Within the story of the film, Jagger acts as the final and most formidable obstacle between the protagonist, Pegasus Seiya, and the captive goddess Athena. He confronts Seiya and Phoenix Ikki deep within Eris's sanctuary. His fighting style relies on brute physical force, which is channeled through his most notable ability, the Megaton Meteor Crash. This technique involves him curling his body into a ball, spinning at high speed, and then launching himself to deliver a devastating kick with his full power concentrated on his heel, an attack so powerful that it can only be blocked by a Gold Cloth.
Jagger's relationships with other characters are primarily adversarial and reveal key aspects of his nature. His initial contempt for other Ghost Saints and his fierce battle with the Bronze Saints highlight his arrogance. The fight with Ikki is particularly significant, as Ikki speaks of the bonds of friendship and loyalty that define the modern Saints, causing Jagger to momentarily hesitate, suggesting a flicker of the honorable warrior he once was. His development reaches its climax when Seiya, empowered by the spirit of Sagittarius Aiolos and donning the Sagittarius Gold Cloth, manages to block his Megaton Meteor Crash and defeat him. In his final moments, Jagger's pride gives way to respect, and he acknowledges Seiya and the others as the true Saints, thereby reaffirming his own forgotten honor before he returns to death.
