Vincent Ropion is a French actor, born on January 16, 1962, who has built a prolific and highly respected career primarily as a voice actor. He began his artistic journey at a young age, appearing in film and theatre as a child. He performed his first voice dubbing work at the age of 13, a path that would come to define his professional life. His early roles in animation included providing the French voice for the character Boy in Tarzan films and for Anthony in Candy Candy.

Ropion is best known to French audiences as the iconic voice of Nicky Larson, the French name for the character Ryo Saeba from the series City Hunter. He first took on this role in 1990 and has since reprised it consistently across all subsequent animated adaptations, including films like City Hunter: Shinjuku Private Eyes and the related series Angel Heart, making him the sole French voice actor to have voiced the character in every piece of animated City Hunter media. This performance was so celebrated that readers of the magazine Animeland voted him "Best Dubbing Actor of the Year" for nearly ten consecutive years. His connection to the role was further honored with a cameo appearance in the 2018 live-action film Nicky Larson et le Parfum de Cupidon, where he played a television journalist named Jean-Michel "Lavoix".

Beyond his signature role, Ropion's voice has been featured in a vast array of animated series and films. He is the French voice for a wide range of characters, including Roberto Hongo in Captain Tsubasa, Rei in High School! Kimengui, Julian Storm in Ranma ½, Pierrot in the Il était une fois... series, Spirou in the 1992 animated series, François in Titeuf, and more recently, Gyro Gearloose in the 2017 reboot of DuckTales and Howard McKenzie in Lastman. He has also lent his voice to the character Jaguar of Orion in the first Saint Seiya film.

In addition to animation, Ropion is highly active in dubbing for live-action film and television. He is the regular French voice for actors such as Dominic Monaghan, whom he dubs as Meriadoc "Merry" Brandybuck in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and as Charlie Pace in Lost; Neil Patrick Harris; Garret Dillahunt; and Roger Bart. His extensive film dubbing work also includes providing the French voice for actors like Quentin Tarantino in Pulp Fiction and Leonardo DiCaprio in What's Eating Gilbert Grape. He is also a prominent voice in the video game industry, most notably as the bard Jaskier in The Witcher game series starting from The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings.

Vincent Ropion's contributions to the art of dubbing in France, particularly his iconic and long-standing portrayal of Nicky Larson, have solidified his status as one of the country's most beloved and recognizable voice actors.
