Description
The character commonly referenced as Orpheé is Orpheus of Lyra, a former Silver Saint of the Lyra constellation who appears in the 1987 animated film Saint Seiya: Evil Goddess Eris as one of the Ghost Five, a group of deceased Athena Saints resurrected by the goddess Eris to serve her. He is depicted as a young man with blue hair reaching chest length and blue eyes, clad in the silver Lyra Cloth and carrying a sacred lyre. In his lifetime he was known as a legendary minstrel and a master of the harp, and he died in a distant era before being brought back to the living world by Eris's power.

His background is that of a celebrated warrior and musician among Athena's ranks, and his resurrection defines his place in the story. He willingly pledges his loyalty to Eris in exchange for a second existence, and this pact is the core of his motivation. He presents himself with a calm and refined demeanor, initially encountered by Andromeda Shun in a peaceful flower field while playing a gentle melody, but as the fight unfolds his ruthless side emerges. He shows little concern for honor and is prepared to kill without hesitation, viewing his service to Eris as a fair price for the new life he has been granted.

In the narrative, he serves as one of the obstacles protecting Eris from the Bronze Saints. He traps Shun in his signature technique, the Stringer Requiem, which nearly kills him before Phoenix Ikki intervenes to save his brother. Orpheus then turns the technique on Ikki and explains his arrangement with Eris while restraining him, presenting himself as a ghost warrior fully devoted to his benefactor. When Ikki attacks with an ability designed to overwhelm opponents by showing them the horrors of hell, Orpheus is unmoved, noting that he has already been through hell in death and therefore cannot be broken by it. Ikki, disgusted by his willingness to abandon all principle for survival, destroys the strings of the lyre through the sheer force of his Cosmos and finishes him with the Hōyoku Tenshō.

His notable abilities are tied entirely to his lyre, which functions as both a musical instrument and a weapon. The Stringer Requiem begins as a soothing melody that clouds the senses of the listener, then escalates as cords extend from the instrument to bind the target. These cords are charged with the user's Cosmos and tighten until they cut through armor and flesh, with a final lethal note delivered along the strings to complete the attack. His renown as a minstrel is therefore inseparable from his combat style, as he relies on music and control of his strings rather than physical martial arts.

Regarding his relationships, his only true bond is to Eris, the goddess who revived him, and he fights alongside the other Ghost Saints as one of her servants. His interactions with Shun and Ikki define his brief appearance, and his defeat at Ikki's hands demonstrates that his resurrected power is not enough to stand against the awakened Cosmos of the Bronze Saints. He shows no remorse and no change of heart, remaining wholly committed to his second life until the moment of his destruction. Although his name deliberately evokes the Orpheus of Greek mythology, with associated imagery such as a serpent coiled around a lyre, this film version contains no Eurydice subplot, and he is a distinct character from the later Lyra Saint named Orphée who appears in the Hades storyline of the manga. Within the film he functions purely as a dangerous antagonist whose legendary reputation and musical combat make him a distinctive member of the Ghost Five.
