Description
Freji, more commonly known as Frey, is a character who appears exclusively in the 1988 anime film Saint Seiya: The Heated Battle of the Gods. He serves as a priest of the god Odin within the Valhalla Palace in the land of Asgard. As a high-ranking official, his position grants him a notable status, allowing him to issue orders even to the fearsome God Warriors. He is the twin brother of Freya and has a close and amicable relationship with her.

In terms of appearance, Frey is depicted as a handsome young man who looks to be in his early twenties. He is tall with fair skin, blue eyes, and blonde hair that reaches nearly to his shoulders. His attire as a priest consists of a white tunic with a black belt, a long white cape with a green interior, and blue detailed shoulder pieces.

Frey is characterized as an honorable and charming individual who values peace above all else. He detests unnecessary conflict and bloodshed, always preferring to seek alternative solutions rather than see the world plunged into a devastating war. When he first meets the goddess Athena, who operates under the name Saori Kido, he is immediately captivated by her beauty, acting with great courtesy and even developing a possible love at first sight, for which he politely apologizes.

His primary motivation throughout the story is to protect Asgard and prevent a senseless war against Athena and the Sanctuary. Frey is initially a loyal subordinate to Dolbar, the representative of Odin and leader of Asgard. However, Frey grows suspicious of a plot to start a war, which he mistakenly believes is being orchestrated by a God Warrior named Loki. He confides his doubts to Dolbar, hoping to find a peaceful resolution. This act of trust proves to be a fatal error, as Dolbar is the true mastermind. Dolbar betrays Frey, attacks him, and locks him in a dungeon where he is tortured. Despite his imprisonment, Frey demonstrates incredible physical strength and resilience, eventually freeing himself as the battle between the Bronze Saints and the God Warriors reaches its climax.

Frey’s role becomes crucial when Saori is trapped in a parallel dimension by Dolbar’s technique. The Pegasus Saint, Seiya, hesitates to fire the final arrow at Dolbar, fearing that with the priest's death, there will be no way to rescue Athena. At this pivotal moment, Frey climbs the great Statue of Odin and shouts for Seiya to shoot, declaring that he will free Athena himself. Despite being attacked by the dying Dolbar, Frey withstands the assault and drives his sword into the statue's head, destroying it and collapsing the parallel dimension. This act of sacrifice costs him his life, as he does not survive the statue's collapse. He believes that by protecting Athena's life, Asgard will be able to recover its lost honor.

As a priest, Frey is able to manipulate the inner energy known as Cosmos. While his full combat abilities remain unknown as he never engages in a direct fight, he possesses remarkable physical strength and endurance. He is able to break free from a dungeon using only his own power and withstand attacks from the powerful high priest Dolbar. He also shows skill in swordsmanship, channeling his Cosmos into his sword to greatly increase its cutting power. With this enhanced weapon, he is able to cleave through the enormous Statue of Odin, an act which also serves to destroy the parallel dimension holding Saori prisoner. His name and some of his characteristics are inspired by the Norse god Freyr, a deity associated with fertility, sunlight, and a magical sword.
