Description
Atlas di Carina is a warrior who serves as one of the three Corona Saints, the elite personal guards of the god Abel in the film Saint Seiya: Legend of Crimson Youth. He is considered the most powerful among this trio and acts as their de facto leader. As a Corona Saint, his protective armor is the Carina Cloth, named for the constellation Carina, which represents the keel of the mythical ship Argo.

In appearance, Atlas is depicted as a tall and muscular man with a toned physique, white skin, and wavy blonde hair kept at a short length. His eyes are blue, and his overall look conveys a sense of immense physical power and agility that rivals even the Gold Saints. He has existed since mythological times, serving Abel for ages before the events of the film.

The personality of Atlas is defined by his immense pride and arrogance. He is vigorous and deeply proud of having been personally chosen by Phoebus Abel to be part of his divine guard. His core philosophy is that power to defeat one's enemies is everything, and he is supremely confident in his own abilities. This confidence often manifests as a dismissive attitude toward opponents, whom he believes are far beneath him. He holds a great deal of respect and admiration for Abel, sharing his god's ideology that power is paramount. Consequently, he does not hesitate to brutally punish anyone he perceives as disrespecting Abel, such as when he attempts to force the Bronze Saint Pegasus Seiya to kneel and beg for forgiveness. Despite his strength and loyalty, he and his fellow Corona Saints are described as lacking honor, as they do not shy away from attacking their opponents by surprise or from behind.

Atlas's primary motivation is to serve Abel's will. When the god returns to Earth to cleanse it and rule alongside his sister Athena, Atlas acts as a fierce enforcer of this divine plan. He seeks to eliminate any who stand in Abel's way, including the Bronze Saints and any Gold Saints who rebel. He seems driven by a belief in the righteousness of his master's cause, seeing it as a natural order where the strong rule absolutely.

Within the story, Atlas serves as a major antagonist and a significant obstacle for the protagonists. Early in the film, he, along with his comrades Berenice and Jao, easily defeats the resurrected Gold Saints Capricorn Shura and Aquarius Camus, with Atlas personally finishing them off. He later confronts Pegasus Seiya, overwhelming him with ease and destroying his Pegasus Cloth with his technique. When the Bronze Saints regroup, Atlas proves to be a nearly insurmountable foe, defeating Shun, Ikki (by attacking him from behind), Hyoga, and Shiryu in rapid succession. His role culminates on Dignity Hill, where he battles the five Bronze Saints simultaneously. Even when facing their combined assault, he easily dodges their attacks and defeats them one by one.

Atlas's key relationships are primarily defined by his devotion to his master, Abel. He fights alongside his Corona Saint comrades, Berenice and Jao, as a cohesive unit, though he outlasts them both in battle. His relationship with the Bronze Saints is one of pure antagonism, viewing them as insects to be crushed for their defiance of Abel. He shares a particularly combative rivalry with Pegasus Seiya, whom he humiliates and defeats twice before their final confrontation.

The character shows little emotional development, as his arrogance remains a constant trait until his end. However, his downfall serves as a classic narrative of pride preceding a fall. After his comrades are defeated, Atlas faces Seiya, Shiryu, and Hyoga once more. Underestimating them, he arrogantly believes their attacks will be as ineffective as before. However, the Bronze Saints are now revitalized and armored by the Gold Cloths of Sagittarius, Libra, and Aquarius, which elevate their cosmos to the level of Gold Saints. Confident in his protective barrier, Atlas makes little effort to dodge their attacks. He is first staggered by a combined assault from Shiryu and Hyoga before being finally defeated and killed by Seiya's Pegasus Sui Sei Ken (Pegasus Meteor Fist).

Atlas possesses several notable abilities derived from his mastery of the cosmos. As a Corona Saint who serves a powerful god, he has awakened the Seventh Sense, allowing him to move and attack at the speed of light and potentially faster. He demonstrates immense physical strength, superhuman agility, and incredible durability. He can generate powerful energy spheres in his palms to strike opponents. He is also able to create a powerful protective barrier around his body that can deflect the attacks of his enemies. His signature and most devastating technique is the Burning Corona. To perform this, Atlas raises his arms and concentrates his cosmos, creating a powerful flame shaped like a sun in his fists. A flaming barrier aura forms around him as he charges the attack, which he then fires as a gigantic, fiery nebula at his opponent. This attack does not only cause severe burns upon impact but also enters the opponent's body and explodes from within. His name is a direct reference to the Titan Atlas from Greek mythology, who was condemned to hold up the sky for eternity.
