Description
Afrodite de Peixes is the Gold Saint guardian of the twelfth temple of the Sanctuary, the Temple of the Twin Fish. He is a young man of exceptional and renowned beauty, often described as the most beautiful among all of Athena's Saints. Born in Sweden on March 10, he trained to become a warrior in Greenland. Despite his mesmerizing appearance, Afrodite is not depicted as narcissistic; rather, he is known for a cruel and ironic personality, earning him a reputation as one of the most feared of the 88 Saints. His core philosophy centers on the belief that power is the only true justice and that the strong have the right to rule over the weak. He views victory itself as the greatest form of beauty.
In the story of Legend of Crimson Youth, Afrodite is one of several Gold Saints resurrected by the god Abel to serve as his warriors and protect Saori Kido. His primary role in this narrative is as an adversary to the Bronze Saints, acting as a formidable obstacle that tests their strength and resolve.
His key relationships in the film involve his confrontations with the Bronze Saints. He first engages in battle with Andromeda Shun, a rematch of their previous life-and-death struggle in the Sanctuary. In this encounter, Afrodite demonstrates his superiority by skillfully avoiding Shun's Nebula Storm technique and landing a lethal blow with his Bloody Rose, defeating the Andromeda Saint. Before the rose can fully drain Shun's blood, Phoenix Ikki arrives. Ikki removes the rose from his brother's chest and confronts Afrodite. The Pisces Gold Saint is ultimately defeated when Ikki's attack causes one of his own white roses to pierce his Gold Cloth and strike him, leading to his death.
Afrodite's motivations are consistent with his established character from the original series: he fights for the side he believes holds power. His allegiance to Abel is a continuation of his conviction that serving the stronger force is the path of justice. Unlike some of his fellow resurrected Gold Saints, there is no significant character development or redemption arc for him within this specific film; he remains an antagonist defined by his ruthless efficiency and his aesthetic of deadly beauty.
His notable abilities are entirely centered on the manipulation of his cosmos to create and control different types of roses, each with a unique and lethal function. His primary techniques include the Royal Demon Rose, a red rose whose thorns and fragrance release a poison that gradually robs the victim of their five senses, leading to a peaceful death. The Piranhan Rose is a black rose that possesses immense destructive power, capable of shattering even a Bronze Cloth upon impact. His most powerful attack is the Bloody Rose, a single white rose that flies at light speed and unfailingly pierces the opponent's heart. Once embedded, it drains all the blood from the victim, turning from white to red, and death is certain once the rose is fully crimson. This attack is considered one of the few near-infallible techniques in the Saint Seiya universe. In other continuities, Afrodite has also demonstrated the ability to create large vines to restrain enemies and is immune to all poisons due to his prolonged exposure to his own demonic roses.
