Description
Hayase Nagatoro is an energetic, mischievous high school student with long black hair pinned by white clips on the right side, swim-tanned skin, and an athletic, slender build. She typically wears an unbuttoned school uniform shirt and sneakers, preferring to go barefoot when possible.
Initially exhibiting a sadistic streak, Nagatoro frequently teases and bullies a timid upperclassman called Senpai after finding his manga drawings, mocking his social awkwardness and interests to the point of tears. Her behavior gradually softens as she develops genuine romantic feelings for him. She becomes fiercely protective, reacting hostilely to others who bully Senpai and showing concern when he withdraws or gets angry with her.
Her teasing deflects her own nervousness, masks insecurities about her bust size and inexperience with physical intimacy, and helps her inch closer to Senpai. Despite provocative jokes and a confident exterior, she flusters during accidental physical contact or sexually charged situations, revealing vulnerability. She is highly possessive, reacting jealously when others flirt with Senpai or he interacts closely with her friends.
Nagatoro belongs to a close-knit friend group including Gamo, Yoshi, and Sakura. Though initially seeming like shallow tormentors, they recognize her mutual crush with Senpai and actively scheme to bring them together. Her dynamic with Gamo involves friendly rivalry, occasional near-physical clashes, and deep mutual support. An older sister similarly teases her, contributing to complex family interactions.
Academically, Nagatoro supports the swimming club and later joins the judo club, demonstrating proficiency in martial arts like muay thai and capoeira. Her competitive drive centers on defeating her friendly yet oblivious judo rival, Orihara—an intimidating Olympic candidate. Nagatoro promises Senpai a kiss if she defeats Orihara, pushing her to confront match insecurities.
Her relationship with Senpai evolves significantly. She encourages his artistic growth, often modeling for him, and helps build his physical fitness and confidence. After Senpai confesses his feelings—despite failing to achieve top exam scores as planned—they officially become a couple. They share their first kiss shortly after, fulfilling her promise post-judo victory. Conflicts arise, like when Senpai lies about drawing a nude model (Machida), causing Nagatoro to avoid him and break down emotionally. They reconcile when he apologizes and vows honesty.
Following Senpai's graduation and move to Tokyo, Nagatoro plans to join him after her own graduation, accepting his proposal to live together. Her character blends teasing with genuine care ("sadodere"), jealousy with support, and athletic confidence with rivalry-induced doubt, showing growth from a superficially cruel bully to a loyal girlfriend with unspoken empathy and affection.
