Sumire Uesaka

Description
Sumire Uesaka is a Japanese voice actress and singer born on December 19, 1991, in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. She is a graduate of Sophia University, where she majored in Russian studies in the Faculty of Foreign Studies.

Her career in entertainment began in childhood. At the age of eight, she was scouted by the talent agency Space Craft and subsequently appeared in commercials, notably becoming the first Japanese person to feature in an advertisement for Vidal Sassoon. Her interest in becoming a voice actor was sparked by watching the anime "Nurse Witch Komugi" and being inspired by the performance of voice actress Halko Momoi. In April 2011, she formally transitioned into voice acting by joining the voice acting division of Space Craft Entertainment.

Uesaka's first leading role in an anime came in 2012 when she was cast as Sora Takanashi in "Listen to Me, Girls. I Am Your Father!". The same year, she voiced the character Nonna in the popular series "Girls Und Panzer." Her performance, combined with her well-known interest in Russian and Soviet culture, led to fans affectionately nicknaming her "political commissar" or "vice-commander". This interest in Russia, which began in high school after she heard the Soviet national anthem, has been a defining aspect of her public persona and has led to her being cast in numerous roles requiring proficiency in the Russian language.

In 2013, Uesaka expanded her career into music, making her solo singer debut under the King Records label with the single "Seven Seas no Kimi no Umi". She continued to build a substantial portfolio of anime roles, voicing prominent characters such as Sanae Dekomori in the "Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions" series, Shalltear Bloodfallen in the "Overlord" franchise, and Anastasia in "The IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls". Her versatility spans a wide range of genres, from the lead role of Lum in the 2022 reboot of "Urusei Yatsura" to Hayase Nagatoro in "Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro" and Alisa Mikhailovna Kujo in "Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian". In 2019, she joined the long-running "Pretty Cure" franchise, voicing the character Cure Cosmo in "Star Twinkle PreCure".

Her work has been recognized with industry awards. In 2016, she won the Best Rookie Actress award at the 10th Seiyu Awards. In 2024, she received the Influence Award at the 18th Seiyu Awards.

In September 2020, Uesaka departed from Space Craft Entertainment and worked as a freelancer before joining her current agency, Voice Kit, in March 2021. Beyond voice acting and singing, she is also known for her work as a model, particularly for lolita fashion brands like Baby, The Stars Shine Bright, and has appeared in various fashion publications.
