Description
Elbia Hanaiman is a young werewolf girl who serves as one of the supporting characters in the story. She is eighteen years old and is the youngest of three sisters, a position that has given her a significant inferiority complex, as she constantly compares herself to her two older siblings, Amatena and Jijirea, who are depicted as being exceptionally talented.
Originally from the Kingdom of Bahairam, Elbia is sent to the Holy Eldant Empire as a spy. Her mission is to gather intelligence on Amutech, the Japanese entertainment company that has been established within the empire's borders. However, her cheerful and spontaneous nature makes her utterly unsuitable for espionage. Her clumsy and naive demeanor leads to her almost immediate capture by the Self-Defense Forces while she was sketching the mansion where Shinichi Kanou lives and the surrounding school grounds. She is revealed to be a spy during Shinichi's own amateurish attempt to prove her innocence, an incident that highlights her lack of aptitude for undercover work.
Despite facing potential execution for her actions, Elbia is saved by Shinichi Kanou. Recognizing her raw talent for art, he hires her as a resident artist at his newly established school within the Eldant Empire. While she previously used charcoal for her drawings, Shinichi provides her with modern art supplies like crayons, which she begins to use enthusiastically. This role gives her a new purpose and a way to contribute, transforming her from a captured spy into a valued member of the community.
A core aspect of Elbia's character is the internal struggle with her werewolf instincts. Her race possesses naturally strong hunting and fighting urges, but to live peacefully within human society, she is forced to suppress these primal drives constantly. She channels much of her pent-up energy and desire to hunt into her passion for drawing, using the act of creation as a therapeutic outlet to maintain her emotional balance. This struggle is further complicated by a mysterious monthly phenomenon referred to as the "Moon's Thing" or "lunar phenomenon," during which she loses control over her instincts and powers, potentially becoming a danger to those around her, including Shinichi.
Her most notable ability is her extraordinary talent as an artist. In a world that lacks photographic technology, her skill for creating high-quality, detailed, and faithful sketches of buildings, landscapes, and people is an invaluable asset. As a werewolf, her physical capabilities—such as strength and speed—are naturally superior to those of a base human, though her combat skills are not particularly refined compared to her sisters. Her journey in the narrative is largely one of self-acceptance, as she learns to balance her predatory nature with her creative gifts, all while developing a stronger sense of identity and overcoming the feelings of inadequacy instilled by her familial comparisons.
