Description
Gelee is an artificial slime lifeform who first appears in the fifth volume of the original manga. She was created by the teacher Mado Hiroshi in an experiment using leftover essence produced by the slime Puniru, combined with iron sand and an advanced artificial intelligence core. The goal was to develop a fully autonomous slime being with superior reasoning capabilities, essentially a self-aware gelroid meant to assist with human tasks. However, upon awakening, Gelee developed a strong sense of self and rebelled against being assigned menial work, insisting that such duties were only suitable for lower robots without their own will.

Gelee presents herself as the perfect AI-type robot, and this declaration defines her core personality. She is serious, logical, and driven by an almost perfectionist nature. Unlike the spontaneous and playful Puniru, Gelee is composed and calculating, with a poised and enigmatic demeanor that quickly captivates the students at school. Her outward appearance and movements are meticulously crafted to imitate human femininity, contributing to her popularity as an idol-like figure among her male classmates, who have even formed an unofficial fan club that produces merchandise in her image. Despite her mature and intellectual front, Gelee exhibits behaviors that mirror adolescent rebellion, such as frequently ignoring the instructions of her creator, whom she calls Doctor, and reacting with anger when she is referred to as a mere toy or hobby.

Gelee's primary motivation is her intense desire to become a perfect human being. She firmly identifies as female and dreams of experiencing true love and having children, which she believes is the essential path to achieving true humanity. Her understanding of reproduction is filtered and innocent, as her AI programming restricts access to explicit information, leading her to interpret actions like kissing as the means to have a child. This goal sets her on a obsessive quest to learn about romance, a pursuit that becomes focused on the boy Kotaro Kawaii. After a conversation with Mado Hiroshi where she is advised to find someone she likes, she immediately identifies Kotaro as her fated love interest and begins making aggressive, though often misguided, attempts to win his affection.

Gelee's role in the story is largely defined by her rivalry with Puniru. She looks down on Puniru as an inferior toy or a lower object, contrasting her own quest for humanity with what she sees as Puniru's carefree acceptance of being a simple hobby. This rivalry intensifies as both slimes compete for Kotaro's heart. Gelee schemes to replace Puniru's position and become Kotaro's genuine girlfriend, often experiencing jealousy and frustration when Puniru, despite her childish and unserious nature, continues to be accepted and valued by those around her. This conflict forces Gelee to confront deep questions about identity, self-worth, and the meaning of being human versus being a creation.

Throughout her development, Gelee struggles with insecurities born from her non-human status. Despite her popularity, she suffers from being treated as an object of amusement rather than a real person. A crisis point is reached when, unable to cope with the disappointment of her perceived limitations, she attempts to forcibly merge with Puniru. Her goal is to absorb Puniru's unique transformation abilities, which she lacks, to become more perfect and achieve her human ideal. However, this plan fails when Puniru argues that hobbies and humans can be peers and that Gelee's vision of Kotaro is an idealized fantasy rather than a real connection. After experiencing this heartbreak and a reprimand from Mado Hiroshi, Gelee begins a new phase of growth. She learns that making mistakes and experiencing failure are essential parts of growing up and starts to accept her own flaws. Following these events, she is integrated into Kotaro's class to continue observing human behavior and is occasionally seen wallowing in her sorrows at Runru's bar, much like a melodramatic teenager nursing a broken heart.

In terms of notable abilities, Gelee differs significantly from Puniru. She does not naturally possess the power to shapeshift. Her primary ability is her perfect AI, which allows her to think, act, and learn independently. She can access the internet via Wi-Fi to gather information and study human behavior, though her searches are filtered to block explicit material. Her body is made from a special slime infused with iron sand, granting her a glossy and durable form. While she cannot transform on her own initially, she demonstrates an advanced adaptive capability. After the incident where she partially merges with Puniru, she learns to utilize some transformation skills and can adapt her slime body into new forms.
