Description
Gamute is a central antagonist in the anime Ninja vs. Gokudo, known as the young leader of the assassination group called the Cracked Children, also referred to as the Glass Children. As one of the Eight Gokudo of Destruction, she is a formidable and deeply troubled figure whose youthful appearance belies her lethal capabilities and a profoundly traumatic past. Her age is estimated to be around fifteen or sixteen years old, as she was a first-year middle school student three years before the main events of the story.
In terms of personality, Gamute presents a dual nature. On the surface, she often appears frivolous, childish, and short-tempered, playing the fool to trick her opponents into underestimating her. However, this is a calculated facade; her true nature is remarkably calm, composed, and sharp, possessing outstanding observational skills. She declares herself an ally of all broken-hearted children and takes sadistic delight in killing what she calls expensive adults. Despite her brutal actions and outward madness, this behavior is a way for her to connect with her comrades who suffer from similar tragic pasts and guilt. She laments her own situation and that of her friends, sadly observing that they became such creatures and that it is too late for help.
Gamute is the unacknowledged daughter of Kiwami Kimura, the leader of the Gokudo, though a DNA test later confirms she has no biological relation to him. She does not see him as a father but as the man who abandoned her and her mother, and she constantly seeks an opportunity to kill him. Her background is one of extreme abuse. Her biological mother subjected her to severe mistreatment from a young age, which included taping her nose and mouth shut, kicking her, and even castration. Despite this horrific upbringing, Gamute harbors an immense and pathological love for her mummified mother, speaking to her joyfully. Her brain suffers from an abnormality that prevents her from sleeping normally unless her close comrade, Prima Yuka Ito, sleeps beside her. She took on the role of leader for the Cracked Children, a group composed solely of underage girls like herself, finding a semblance of family among them.
Her role in the story is that of a primary antagonist and a direct foil to the protagonists. Gamute first appears in the Kabuchika district, where she deals a finishing blow to a wounded ninja alongside her mentor figure, Hiroki Yajima. In her first clash with the main protagonist, Shinoha Tanaka, she succeeds in slashing his right eye and leaving a scar, but in return, her left wrist is severed by his Dark Blade. She survives a subsequent bombing ordered by Kiwami, which cements her desire for revenge against him. Alongside Hiroki Yajima, she participates in the rampage at Imperial High as a form of training to achieve her ultimate goal. Her master plan unfolds during an assault on the Prime Ministers Official Residence, where she leads all of the Cracked Children. Learning that Shinoha Tanaka is to receive an award and that Kiwami Kimura will be in attendance, she stages a deadly game with the civilians inside.
Key relationships define her actions and motivations. Beyond her hatred for Kiwami Kimura, Gamute shows a capacity for profound empathy for broken individuals. She deeply admired Hiroki Yajima, calling him Anchan, or older brother, and genuinely wept upon finding his corpse, maintaining reverence for him even after death. She also showed kindness to members of the Holy Blossom, recognizing them as adults suffering due to being adults. However, her strongest bonds are with her own team. As the members of the Cracked Children are killed one by one by Shinoha Tanaka, and upon sensing the death of Prima Yuka Ito, Gamute orders her remaining comrades to switch from playing to serious killing.
Gamute develops from a seemingly impulsive killer into a more calculating and tragic figure as her backstory is revealed. Her ultimate confrontation occurs when she ingests two doses of a drug called Hell's Tickets. This boosts her Masacre Point (MP) from a previous 530,000 to over 10 million, granting her superhuman physical abilities and allowing her to temporarily mimic the techniques of her fallen comrades. In this enhanced state, she corners Shinoha Tanaka but is ultimately overpowered, resulting in her limbs being severed by his Dark Blade. As death approaches from the drugs side effects, she uses her final breath to reveal Shinohatrue identity to Kiwami, dying with joy at the astonished expression on her father face. In her last moments, she fantasizes about an if future where she and her comrades were not broken, living peacefully and pursuing their dreams, revealing her deep longing for an ordinary peace she could never have.
Gamute possesses several notable abilities that make her an exceptionally dangerous opponent. Her initial combat style involved fighting with dual short swords held in a reverse grip. After losing her left hand, she adapted by creating a double-bladed sword called W-Doss Doss, made from two short swords taped together, before eventually returning to a single short sword. She boasts superhuman physical skills, including the precision to stab internal organs through the gaps in muscle fibers and the ability to operate for about thirty minutes without breathing. Her signature Gokudo technique is called Yamai-Dare, where she uses her short sword to make an incision in a targets liver and slightly displaces the tissue, instantly inducing symptoms identical to end-stage liver cancer or liver failure. Her most powerful state is achieved by taking two Hell's Tickets, which skyrockets her power for approximately five minutes. Her extraordinary learning ability and flashes of insight, combined with her cunning and ruthlessness, make her one of the most memorable and dangerous characters in the series.
