Description
Kikko Hoshino is a magical girl and a member of the Superhuman Bureau who initially works as a waitress at a cafe before being formally recruited into the organization. As a magic user, she is part of a category of superhumans often referred to as witches or magical girls, and she must recite a specific word or line to activate her transformation. Her chosen phrase is Meteorterre. Beyond her magical identity, it is revealed that Kikko is actually a demon from another dimension who was sent to the human world on a specific mission. She is a candidate to become the future queen of the demon realm and gains power by indirectly forming a sort of contract with those she saves.

Personality wise, Kikko initially presents as an innocent and somewhat naive young woman, often serving as a viewpoint character who is surprised by the darker and more complex moral shades of the world around her. She has a keen interest in manga, particularly for its fictional portrayals of magical girls, which informs her understanding of her own role. Her personality is not static, however, as she possesses a contrasting ruthless and much more powerful devil form that emerges under certain conditions. A core aspect of her character is her deep affection for her colleague Jirou Hitoyoshi, for whom she develops a significant crush. This often puts her in a position of rivalry with Emi for his attention and is a primary factor in her decision to join the Superhuman Bureau. Her motivations evolve over time. While her surface goal is to work as a magical girl protecting humanity, her true underlying purpose for being on Earth is to find a suitable husband to become the demon prince-consort, allowing her to return home and take up her responsibilities as queen. Over the course of the story, her feelings for Jirou become increasingly central to her actions, and by the forty-sixth year of the Shinka Era, her primary drive is to bring a now-fugitive Jirou back to the Superhuman Bureau.

In her role within the story, Kikko is a member of the Superhuman Bureaus photographic department, where she helps capture images and videos of the bureaus missions for public information and education. She is recruited by Jirou after assisting him during an incident involving an alien spy, proving herself a worthy ally. Her key relationships are primarily with Jirou Hitoyoshi, whom she admires and seeks to be close to, and with the sentient being named Ullr, who resides within her and offers her advice on using her abilities. She also forms a rival dynamic with Emi regarding Jirous affections. Throughout the narrative, Kikko is involved in missions that uncover government conspiracies, such as a plot to weaponize a superhumans power, and she investigates the histories of other superhumans like Devila and Devilo. Her journey is one of gradual change; over the years, she ages like a human, grows her hair out, and transitions from a girl into a young adult, at times losing her qualifications as a candidate for queen. In the climactic moments of the series, she is forced to make significant moral decisions, including consciously using her powers to eliminate an enemy, an act that highlights her departure from pure innocence.

Regarding her notable abilities, Kikko possesses a variety of powers fundamentally different from the laws of physics. In her standard magical girl form, her hair turns lavender and she wears an extravagant dress. She wields a staff topped with a star ornament, which she can also use while untransformed, and she houses Ullr between her cleavage. Her primary source of power is derived from human happiness, as she gains energy from the joy of those she saves. In her devil realm outfit, her appearance changes dramatically to a black ensemble with less coverage, including a cape and an unusual helmet. In this form, she is much more powerful and ruthless, utilizing a weapon called Comet Tail that seems to emerge from Ullr's star. One of her key combat abilities is teleportation, which she can use strategically, such as teleporting a package or even teleporting an enemy into an energy-draining cell that destroys them.
