TV-Series
Description
Sayaka Yumi, daughter of Dr. Gennosuke Yumi, serves as an agent for the Kabuto Foundation. Piloting the Double Spazer, she supports Duke Fleed and Koji Kabuto against the Vegan Empire. This adaptation features her with dark purple hair, differing from previous brown portrayals.

Her background includes skilled mecha piloting, initially operating Aphrodite A and later Diana A against threats like Dr. Hell's Mechanical Beasts. While proficient in acrobatic maneuvers, Aphrodite A's limited offensive capabilities affected her combat effectiveness. She notably sacrificed Aphrodite A to save Koji and Mazinger Z, leading to depression until Diana A became operational.

Sayaka exhibits a straightforward, brave, and prideful personality, often acting as a moral compass. She opposes torture and advocates for prisoners' ethical treatment, citing protocols like the Geneva Convention. Her compassion includes prioritizing her father's safety, sometimes pleading with him to avoid risks. She shares a complex relationship with Koji Kabuto, marked by frequent arguments yet underlying mutual respect and affection, which evolves as he becomes more supportive of her combat role. She also experiences jealousy when other women show interest in Koji.

In interactions, Sayaka shares supportive camaraderie with Boss, frequently teaming up with him to prove their worth to Koji, viewing him primarily as a friend despite his romantic interest. She establishes a trusting bond with Duke Fleed, noting the contrast between his gentle nature and Koji's brashness. She remains vigilant about security, expressing concerns over potential spies like Naida compromising the Photon Power Laboratory's safety.

Historically, Sayaka first encountered Duke Fleed when rescuing him after his crash-landing on Earth. She protected him during an attack by Doublas M2, leading to his integration into her and Koji's circle. This trio worked together to help Duke recover his lost memories, culminating in his decision to pilot Grendizer. In "Grendizer U," she operates the Double Spazer in battles, fulfilling a role originally intended for Maria Fleed in earlier Grendizer narratives.

Trivia notes indicate Sayaka was initially planned for the original UFO Robot Grendizer series but was replaced by Maria Fleed. "Grendizer U" marks her official inclusion in the Grendizer storyline, where she coexists with Maria as a distinct character.
