Description
Valentina Mari is an Italian voice actress, born in Rome on April 28, 1978, who is primarily known for her extensive work in the Italian dubbing of international films and television series. Her career in voice acting began in 1986. While she is renowned for providing the Italian voice for many Hollywood actresses, such as Natalie Portman and Audrey Tautou, she has also built a significant body of work in the dubbing of anime and animated productions for the Italian market.
Mari is perhaps most famously recognized by Italian anime fans for her long-standing role as Rei Ayanami in the various iterations of the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise. She voiced the character in the original series' Italian dub, as well as in the subsequent films, including the final installment of the Rebuild of Evangelion series, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time.
Her work is prominent within the magical girl genre, particularly the Pretty Cure franchise. She voices the fairy Milk, who later assumes the human alias Kurumi Mimino and transforms into the warrior Milky Rose. This role spans the series Yes! Pretty Cure 5 GoGo! and its associated films, such as Yes! Pretty Cure 5: Kagami no Kuni no Miracle Daibōken! and Yes! Pretty Cure 5 GoGo! Okashi no Kuni no Happy Birthday. She also provided the voice for the antagonist Northa, who uses the human alias Nayuta Kita, in the series Fresh Pretty Cure.
Beyond these prominent roles, Mari's anime dubbing filmography includes a wide variety of characters. She voiced Lucie Skroupova in the dystopian sci-fi film Genocidal Organ, Midori Mitsuya in The Sky Crawlers, and Asako Satou in the series St. Luminous Mission High School. She also took on the role of Sayaka Yumi in the Mazinger Angels manga series adaptation, and voiced the character Sawa in the anime Kite. Her work also extends to live-action film dubbing, such as providing the Italian voice for Lena Headey's character Crowe Altius in Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV.
