Description
"Mazinger Z" is a seminal mecha anime series that centers on the conflict between humanity and the malevolent forces of Dr. Hell, a scientist bent on world domination. The story unfolds in a near-future setting where advanced robotics and super-science are integral to society. The protagonist, Koji Kabuto, is a young pilot who inherits the powerful robot Mazinger Z from his grandfather, Dr. Juzo Kabuto. This massive machine, powered by the fictional alloy Super Alloy Z, becomes humanity's primary defense against Dr. Hell's army of mechanical beasts.
Dr. Hell, aided by his loyal subordinate Baron Ashura, seeks to conquer the world using an army of robotic monsters created from the remnants of an ancient civilization discovered beneath the Japanese island of Bardos. These mechanical beasts, known as "Mechanical Beasts," are unleashed to wreak havoc, and only Mazinger Z, piloted by Koji, stands in their way. Koji is supported by a team of allies, including his childhood friend Sayaka Yumi, who pilots the female counterpart robot Aphrodite A, and her father, Dr. Yumi, who provides scientific expertise.
The narrative is episodic, with each episode typically featuring a new Mechanical Beast sent by Dr. Hell to challenge Koji and Mazinger Z. The battles are intense and often require Koji to devise new strategies or utilize Mazinger Z's arsenal of weapons, such as the iconic Rocket Punch and Breast Fire. Over time, the series delves into the origins of Mazinger Z, revealing that it was created using technology from the ancient Mycenaean civilization, the same source of Dr. Hell's power. This connection adds depth to the conflict, as Koji and his allies uncover more about the ancient forces at play.
Themes of courage, sacrifice, and the ethical use of technology are woven throughout the series. Koji's growth as a pilot and a leader is central to the story, as he learns to balance his personal struggles with the immense responsibility of protecting humanity. The series also explores the moral ambiguity of scientific advancement, as both Dr. Kabuto and Dr. Hell represent opposing sides of the same coin—geniuses whose creations have the potential for both salvation and destruction.
"Mazinger Z" is notable for its pioneering role in the mecha genre, introducing many tropes that would become staples in later series. Its blend of high-stakes action, character development, and exploration of technological ethics has cemented its place as a classic in anime history. The series concludes with a climactic battle against Dr. Hell's ultimate creation, setting the stage for future installments in the Mazinger franchise.

1The Birth of a Miraculous Robot
On Bardos Island in the Aegean Sea,Dr. Hell shows Baron Ashura his army of Mechanical Beasts, including Garada K7 and Doublas M2, and orders the assassination of Professor Juzo Kabuto, the only scientist who knows the secret of these robots. Baron Ashura travels to Tokyo and arrives at the Kabuto residence, where the housemaid Rumi answers the door. After Ashura kills Rumi, Koji Kabuto returns home to find his younger brother Shiro crying over her body. Professor Kabuto calls the residence and urgently tells Koji to bring Shiro to his villa near Mount Fuji, saying world peace depends on it. Koji drives his motorcycle with Shiro to the villa, but they arrive to find the building blown up by explosives planted by Baron Ashura's Iron Mask soldiers. Searching through the rubble, the brothers discover a hidden staircase leading to an underground laboratory. They find their grandfather mortally wounded beneath a collapsed beam. Before dying, Professor Kabuto reveals that Dr. Hell, an evil scientist bent on world domination, caused his death. He shows them his final invention: a giant super robot named Mazinger Z, built with Super Alloy Z and powered by Photon Energy. He tells Koji that with Mazinger Z, he can become either a god or a devil, and instructs him to pilot the robot using the Hover Pilder, a small flying craft that docks into the robot's head. After their grandfather dies, Koji vows to avenge him. Koji struggles to control the Hover Pilder but eventually manages to dock it into Mazinger Z's head. He then finds he cannot control the giant robot, which stumbles through a forest and nearly crushes Shiro. Sayaka Yumi arrives in her robot Aphrodite A and stops Mazinger Z from stepping on Shiro. Dr. Yumi monitors the situation from the Photon Energy Research Institute as Dr. Hell orders Baron Ashura to launch the Mechanical Beasts and attack Japan. Garada K7 and Doublas M2 emerge from the sea and begin destroying the city while Koji remains unable to control Mazinger Z effectively. Koji must master Mazinger Z immediately or watch the city burn under the mechanical beasts' assault.
3The Plan to Annihilate Mazinger Z
Sayaka Yumi approaches Boss and his gang while they perform motorcycle tricks. She tricks them into cleaning Kouji Kabuto's new house by promising to introduce a superior biker. Kouji arrives with his brother Shiro and confirms he is that biker, provoking a physical fight with Boss. Sayaka stops the brawl and then begins training Kouji on Mazinger Z's controls. Her mocking attitude angers Kouji, who demands to train alone. While attempting to increase Mazinger Z's speed, Kouji loses control and severely injures himself. Baron Ashura reports Kouji's training failure to Dr. Hell, who then orders the deployment of the Mechanical Beast Gromazen R9. Kouji wakes up under Sayaka and Shiro's care. The laboratory scientists take Kouji's measurements to create a protective pilot suit. Baron Ashura sends a squad of Iron Masks to infiltrate Kouji's house that night. Dr. Yumi calls to warn Kouji about the Mechanical Beast attack, but the Iron Masks cut the phone line and attempt to capture him. Kouji evades them and reaches the Hover Pilder. The Japanese military fails to stop Gromazen R9. Aphrodite A arrives to fight the Mechanical Beast but lacks weapons and suffers heavy damage. Mazinger Z arrives and saves Aphrodite A. Sayaka guides Kouji, who destroys Gromazen R9 using the Breast Fire attack. Kouji loses control of Mazinger Z again while trying to return Sayaka to the laboratory. Boss and his gang give Sayaka a ride back, where she sees Kouji wearing his new pilot suit for the first time. Baron Ashura contacts Kouji directly and demands he surrender Mazinger Z to survive.
4Mazinger Z in Peril!!
At the Photon Power Laboratory,Sayaka tests Aphrodite A after Dr. Yumi installs missiles on the robot for self-defense against Mechanical Beasts. Koji transfers to a new school where Boss challenges him to a motorcycle contest in front of the entire class. Koji wins the contest. Sayaka arrives at the school to visit Koji. Aphrodite A suddenly goes out of control and runs away. Boss and Koji pursue the rogue robot. The Mechanical Beast Gaia Q5 generates electromagnetic waves that disrupt Aphrodite A's control systems. Koji launches Mazinger Z to confront Gaia Q5. The electromagnetic interference prevents Koji from controlling Mazinger Z properly. Baron Ashura dispatches several Iron Masks to infiltrate the Photon Power Laboratory. Dr. Yumi gives Shiro an anti-electromagnetic staff to neutralize Gaia Q5's powers. Boss takes Shiro to Mazinger Z. Shiro delivers the staff to his brother. Koji regains control of Mazinger Z and destroys Gaia Q5. Aphrodite A successfully repels the Iron Masks' attack on the laboratory. The episode concludes with the laboratory secured, but Baron Ashura's forces continue to threaten the Photon Power Laboratory.
5Ghost Mazinger Appears
Dr. Hell orders Baron Ashura to deploy KingDan X10,a mechanical beast that projects illusions, to destroy Mazinger Z. Late at night, Koji Kabuto and his brother Shiro ambush several Iron Masks outside the Photon Power Laboratory. Koji captures one Mask, who commits suicide after warning Koji to watch the skies the next day. A duplicate of Mazinger Z appears the following morning and begins a destructive rampage. Baron Ashura calls the laboratory to announce that the rampaging robot is a fake created by Dr. Hell. On live television, Ashura accuses Koji of selling Mazinger Z's secrets to Dr. Hell, using the existence of the copy as false proof of betrayal. Koji launches in Mazinger Z to confront the doppelganger while Shiro and Sayaka Yumi follow separately. Sayaka realizes the duplicate is only an illusion when Koji's attacks pass through it, concluding that Dr. Hell intends to waste Mazinger Z's energy. Baron Ashura captures Shiro, Boss, and Boss's friends and threatens to kill them unless Koji enters a minefield the Iron Masks have planted. Aphrodite A loses one leg to the mines before Koji destroys the remaining explosives with Mazinger Z's Koushiryoku Beam. KingDan X10 emerges from hiding and multiplies its image to confuse Koji. Mazinger Z nearly exhausts its power reserves but destroys KingDan X10 with the Breast Fire attack. Boss apologizes to Koji for believing the false accusations of treason. Baron Ashura asks Dr. Hell to execute him for his repeated failures, but Dr. Hell refuses and commands Ashura to continue devising new strategies to defeat Mazinger Z.
6Dr. Hell's Two Great Mechanical Beasts
Dr. Hell orders Baron Ashura to deploy two Mechanical Beasts,Zaila and Danchel, during a heavy fog over Mt. Fuji. Zaila attacks the city to draw out Mazinger Z while Danchel heads directly for the Photon Power Laboratory. Koji Kabuto launches in Mazinger Z and Sayaka Yumi follows in Aphrodite A to intercept Zaila. Koji asks Sayaka to leave the fight to him, but she ignores him and engages Zaila. Zaila’s horn strikes Aphrodite A from behind, forcing Sayaka to return to the base for repairs. With Mazinger Z occupied, Danchel and the Iron Mask Corps arrive at the laboratory. Zaila fires electromagnetic rays that collapse a wall onto Mazinger Z, trapping Koji under rubble. Dr. Yumi and Shiro drive to the battlefield so Dr. Yumi can guide Koji through the controls from outside. Koji regains his composure and fires a Rocket Punch to grab Zaila’s legs, immobilizing the Mechanical Beast. After Dr. Yumi’s instructions free Mazinger Z from the debris, Koji destroys Zaila with the Photon Beam and Rust Hurricane. Mazinger Z then returns to the laboratory and annihilates Danchel with the same weapons. Baron Ashura vows revenge and prepares a new strategy for the next attack.
7Baron Ashura's Great Plan
A mechanical beast attacks Mazinger Z and Aphrodite A in a city. The enemy robot retreats into the ruins instead of continuing the fight. Baron Ashura executes a strategic plan to turn public opinion against the Photon Energy Institute. The scheme creates distrust toward Doctor Yumi and his organization. The tension causes Koji Kabuto and Sayaka Yumi to argue and physically fight each other. Shiro Kabuto intervenes and reminds his older brother of his duty to protect others. Koji re-evaluates his priorities and launches Mazinger Z to confront the enemy. Aphrodite A falls into a trap set by the mechanical beast. Mazinger Z arrives to rescue Sayaka and engages the monster directly. The episode reveals the first mention of Koji and Shiro's deceased parents, suggesting their deaths connected to Photon Energy research. Mazinger Z destroys the mechanical beast and secures Aphrodite A's escape. Baron Ashura survives the defeat and begins planning a more elaborate deception against the Photon Energy Institute.
11The Phantom Galen Cannon is going to Blow!!
Baron Ashura discovers the Galen Cannon,a massive weapon hidden inside a cave on Mount Fuji since Japan lost the war 28 years earlier. Ashura informs Dr. Hell of the plan to use the cannon and its Magnum Gunpowder to destroy the Photon Power Lab. In the city, Sayaka finishes shopping for clothes when Boss approaches her on his motorcycle and offers to take her home. Koji interrupts them and insists Sayaka leave with him instead. The two boys prepare to fight as a crowd gathers, and Sayaka slips away unnoticed with Mucha. While passing near the mountain cave, Mucha and Sayaka witness the Galen Cannon testing and Baron Ashura spots them, but they escape. Sayaka returns with Koji inside Aphrodite A and Mazinger Z to investigate the area. Baron Ashura dispatches the Mechanical Beast Brighton J2, whose mobility on the rough terrain blocks the robots' advance. Sayaka suggests Koji scout from the air using the Hover Pilder, and he successfully photographs the hidden cannon. Dr. Yumi recognizes the weapon from the photos and sends Koji, Boss, and his gang with bombs to destroy it. The group climbs the mountain, ambushes several Iron Masks, and steals their disguises. Dressed as Ashura's minions, they infiltrate the cannon's position and rig it to explode. Brighton J2 attacks Sayaka and Shiro, but Mazinger Z destroys the Mechanical Beast before the cannon can fire. With the Galen Cannon destroyed, the Photon Power Lab remains safe, but Baron Ashura continues searching for new ways to strike at Mazinger Z.
12Traitor! The Enlarged Robot - Vikong!
Dr. Hell aims a rifle at Baron Ashura, who begs for his life, believing Dr. Hell will execute him for repeated failures. Dr. Hell fires the weapon, and Baron Ashura grows to giant size instead of dying. The rifle, Dr. Hell's new Giant Making Rifle, enlarges its target. Baron Ashura attempts to retaliate against Dr. Hell for past mistreatment, but Dr. Hell fires the weapon again before Ashura can act. Dr. Hell explains the weapon requires adjustments and testing before giving the rifle to Ashura for deployment. Ashura drives around searching for a suitable target to enlarge and send against Mazinger Z. An Iron Mask subordinate suggests enlarging a lizard, then a dog, then a pig, each time triggering Ashura's vision of the animal losing to Mazinger Z. Ashura rejects all three suggestions and strikes the subordinate. Ashura encounters a boy named Junichi playing with a toy robot. Using the Giant Making Rifle, Ashura transforms the toy into the enormous mechanical beast Vikong, also designated Bicong O9. Koji Kabuto launches Mazinger Z to intercept Vikong. During the battle, Koji deploys a new weapon, the Missile Punch, for the first time. Mazinger Z destroys Vikong, ending the immediate threat. The Giant Making Rifle survives the battle intact, leaving Dr. Hell able to use the weapon again in future operations.
13The Devil's Giant Rolling Attack!!
Koji Kabuto and his schoolmates participate in a snow sculpture contest at their school. Baron Ashura monitors Koji's location through Saluud's video feed and dispatches the Mechanical Beast Goronko S2 disguised as a giant snowball. The Photon Power Laboratory detects the Beast's signal and launches Sayaka Yumi in Aphrodite A to investigate. Goronko S2 activates a radar jamming device, preventing Aphrodite A from pinpointing its location in the snowy city. Nuke and Mucha mistake the disguised Goronko S2 for a real snowball and bring it to their leader Boss as material for their sculpture. Shiro Kabuto arrives at the contest grounds and warns his brother about the unidentified object detected by the lab. Koji abandons the competition to respond to the threat. Baron Ashura orders Goronko S2 to attack, and the Mechanical Beast's rolling motion destroys Boss's partially completed sculpture. Boss and his gang fail to catch the snowball but meet Sayaka and warn her that the snowball is likely a disguised enemy. Ashura dispatches Iron Mask soldiers to Koji's home to prevent him from launching the Hover Pilder. Koji defeats the attackers and boards the Hover Pilder, docking with Mazinger Z. Aphrodite A locates and attacks Goronko S2 but suffers a quick defeat. Mazinger Z destroys Goronko S2 with its arsenal, including the Breast Fire and Rocket Punch. The battle's duration causes Koji and his teammates to miss the contest's time limit, resulting in their disqualification. While the heroes defeat the Mechanical Beast, Baron Ashura escapes to plot another assault on the Photon Power Laboratory.
14Rage! The Sleeping Giant - Spartan!
Doctor Hell implants the souls of a Roman gladiator and a Masai warrior into the mechanical beast Spartan K5. The resulting creature possesses a will and refuses to engage in combat. Doctor Hell publicly denounces Spartan K5 as a traitor for its disobedience. Baron Ashura suggests that confronting Spartan K5 with Mazinger Z might force it to fight. Koji Kabuto celebrates his brother Shiro's birthday at the Photon Power Laboratory. A report arrives of Spartan K5's appearance, and Koji launches in Mazinger Z to confront it. He finds the mechanical beast sleeping and returns to the party without attacking. News broadcasts depict the non-fighting robot, humiliating Doctor Hell. The enraged Doctor Hell orders Baron Ashura to destroy Spartan K5 with explosives. The Iron Mask corps plant bombs on the giant robot. Shiro, Boss, and his friends visit Spartan K5. Shiro plays a drum, and the radio music triggers the warrior instincts within the mechanical beast. Spartan K5 awakens and attacks the group. Koji and Sayaka sortie in Mazinger Z and Aphrodite A. Spartan K5 impales Aphrodite A with its spear and pierces Mazinger Z's Rocket Punch. The beast's shield withstands both Missile Punch and Breast Fire. Just as Spartan K5 prepares to deliver a final blow, the bombs planted by Doctor Hell detonate, destroying the mechanical beast's limbs. Koji remains unaware of the bombs and believes he has defeated a powerful enemy. Doctor Hell, realizing his bombs destroyed his own creation, views the timing as a terrible misfortune. The episode ends with the Photon Power Laboratory unaware that a massive tsunami, carrying the mechanical beast Tiguru E7, approaches the coast while Golias W3 moves to attack the laboratory.
21Showdown in a Ghost Town
Doctor Hell orders Baron Ashura to convert a Western-style ghost town into a mechanical beast repair factory. Ashura deploys the mechanical beast Wainder A2 and occupies the town. He takes several children, including Shiro Kabuto, hostage and hangs them on an execution stand. Ashura demands that Koji Kabuto abandon Mazinger Z in exchange for the hostages' safety. Professor Yumi sends an alert to Koji, but Koji and Boss are already playing in the ghost town and do not notice the message immediately. Aphrodite A engages the Iron Mask forces but loses control after taking a direct hit from Wainder A2. Koji arrives in Mazinger Z and stops Aphrodite A's rampage using a shock therapy technique. He discovers Shiro and the other hostages suspended above a bed of sharp spikes. Mazinger Z cannot attack freely with the hostages in danger. Koji uses the Rust Hurricane to dissolve the spikes beneath the hostages, freeing them from immediate harm. Wainder A2 approaches from behind and prepares to strike Mazinger Z with an electric attack. Aphrodite A recovers and restrains Wainder A2, giving Mazinger Z an opening. Koji fires a Rocket Punch at the restrained mechanical beast. The two robots engage in close combat, and Mazinger Z destroys Wainder A2's arms with another Rust Hurricane. Koji finishes the enemy with a combined attack of the Photon Power Beam and Breast Fire, shattering Wainder A2 completely. Baron Ashura flees as the ghost town falls back under the Photon Power Laboratory's control. The underwater fortress Salude begins attacking ships at sea, setting a trap to lure Mazinger Z into an oceanic battle.
22Ambush!! The Great Underwater Fortress
Baron Ashura sinks multiple ships to lure Mazinger Z into the ocean. Ashura recognizes that Mazinger Z lacks effective underwater weaponry. At the Photon Power Laboratory, the three professors conduct an underwater Photon Beam experiment, but the test ends in failure. Despite this setback, Kouji Kabuto pilots Mazinger Z into the sea without hesitation. Mazinger Z engages the enemy and achieves a temporary victory, forcing Ashura to retreat. Ashura regroups and reorganizes the attack forces for a second assault. Kouji launches again with Mazinger Z, still operating without functional underwater armaments. The episode presents a tactical confrontation centered on environmental disadvantage and technological limitations. The conflict ends with Mazinger Z destroying the mechanical beast and the undersea fortress Salude escaping. Kouji returns to the laboratory and requests the development of underwater weapons. The professors admit they cannot complete such weapons in time for the next attack. Doctor Hell orders Ashura to renew the assault immediately. Mazinger Z risks a direct confrontation against the new mechanical beast Balanger M2. The episode concludes with Mazinger Z luring the beast to the surface, where its weapons regain effectiveness, and defeating it with Rocket Punches while the Salude fortress escapes.
24Mach Kikaijuu Jinrai
Dr. Hell deploys the new mechanical beast Jinrai S1 against the city. The machine flies at supersonic speed, making it invisible to the naked eye during attack runs. Jinrai S1 launches missile strikes on the city while Mazinger Z launches to intercept. Mazinger Z absorbs multiple missile hits but cannot track the enemy due to its speed. The Photon Power Research Institute scientists review high-speed camera footage of the attacks. The slow-motion analysis reveals that Jinrai S1 must decelerate and hover briefly to aim its weapons. Koji Kabuto receives this tactical data through the institute‘s communication link. He waits for the moment when Jinrai S1 stops to lock onto its target. Koji launches a Rocket Punch at that exact pause point, striking the mechanical beast directly. Jinrai S1 explodes from the impact, ending the immediate threat to the city. Dr. Hell loses another mechanical beast but continues planning his next assault. The episode closes with Dr. Hell‘s forces preparing a new attack targeting Aphrodite A.
27Operation Capture Aphrodite A
Baron Ashura launches a plan to capture Aphrodite A and extract the secrets of Photonic Energy. The mechanical beast Belgas V5,which can separate into multiple parts, lures Sayaka Yumi and her robot to the abandoned Oumi Island. Sayaka follows Belgas V5 into the island's underground facilities, where Baron Ashura traps her and takes Aphrodite A prisoner. Dr. Hell orders a full analysis of Aphrodite A's systems to replicate its Photonic Engine for building a superior robot. To buy time for the examination, Baron Ashura sends Belgas V5 to intercept Mazinger Z before Koji Kabuto reaches the island. Koji engages Belgas V5 in combat and defeats the mechanical beast using the Rust Hurricane attack. Rather than destroying Belgas V5 completely, Koji allows it to retreat and follows its path back to the hidden base entrance. Inside the base, Koji locates Aphrodite A and the laboratory where scientists have compiled data on the robot's structure. Koji destroys all the recorded data on Aphrodite A, preventing Dr. Hell from using the Photonic Energy research. He frees Sayaka, and both escape from the island base as it sustains damage. Dr. Hell reacts with fury when Baron Ashura admits to memorizing none of the scanned information, having relied entirely on the computer records. The loss of the Photonic Energy data forces Dr. Hell to reconsider his strategy, setting the stage for his next operation to steal the super-alloy Chogokin Z.
28The Dark Command - The Operation To Steal the Super Alloy Z
Doctor Hell scolds Baron Ashura for failing to acquire Super Alloy Z. Hell provides Ashura with a mechanical beast named Hogas D5 and an iron mask disguised as Professor Yumi. Ashura captures the real Professor Yumi and replaces him with the disguised impostor at the Photon Power Laboratory. The false Professor Yumi feeds Koji Kabuto incorrect information about Hogas D5's weaknesses during the battle. Sayaka Yumi notices the impostor's black fingernails,a detail that reveals the deception. Ashura takes the real Professor Yumi hostage on a cliff edge, preventing Mazinger Z from attacking Hogas D5. Professor Yumi breaks free from his captor and deliberately throws himself off the cliff. Koji fires Mazinger Z's rocket fist, catching Professor Yumi in mid-air and saving his life. Freed from the hostage situation, Koji pilots Mazinger Z to destroy Hogas D5. Doctor Hell retreats to plan his next attempt to steal the valuable Super Alloy Z.

Grengus C3 overwhelms Aphrodite A with its flying heat plate and iron ball attacks, leaving the robot heavily damaged and Sayaka unconscious. Koji Kabuto arrives at the scene and finds Sayaka injured. He boards Mazinger Z to confront Grengus C3. The mechanical beast strikes the water surface, splashing the Hover Pilder's windshield and blinding Koji. Consecutive iron ball hits damage Mazinger Z's electrical circuits, disabling all of its weapons. Grengus C3 entangles Mazinger Z with its chain-linked iron balls, launches its heat plate into the robot's chest, and sets the super robot on fire. The beast hurls Mazinger Z into the sea, and Koji loses consciousness as water leaks into the cockpit. Grengus C3 turns its assault on the Photon Power Laboratory. Professor Yumi repairs the communications equipment and desperately calls out to Koji, who regains consciousness. With all weapons unusable, Yumi instructs Koji to completely shut down Mazinger Z's power to turn the enemy's strength against it. Koji complies, and Grengus C3 swings the inert robot like a toy. At the precise moment before Grengus C3 slams Mazinger Z into the ground, Koji activates Mazin Power, releasing all stored energy instantly to exceed the robot's normal performance. Mazinger Z lands on its feet and hurls Grengus C3 to the ground, destroying the mechanical beast. The town festival resumes, and work begins to repair the damaged laboratory. The next episode places Shiro in danger when a mechanical beast traps him inside a cave.
30Shiro In Danger - Mazinger Z To The Rescue!!
Dr. Hell deploys a new mechanical beast,Brutus M3. The beast carries two large diamonds on its chest that convert any object into energy and absorb that energy into itself. Two gold miners observe the beast in operation and manage to detach one of the diamonds from its chest. The detached diamond falls into the hands of Shiro, Boss, and their friends who happen to be passing through the area. A dispute breaks out among the group over possession of the large diamond. Brutus M3 arrives to retrieve the stolen diamond. The group flees into a cave to escape the beast. The mechanical beast blocks the cave entrance, trapping Shiro and his companions inside. Shiro sends a carrier pigeon to deliver a message to his brother Koji. Koji receives the distress signal and launches in Mazinger Z. He arrives at the cave location and engages Brutus M3 in combat. Mazinger Z destroys the mechanical beast, freeing Shiro and the others from the cave. The destruction of Brutus M3 ends the immediate threat, but Dr. Hell continues to prepare new mechanical beasts for future attacks.
31The Captured Mecha-Beast - Operation Electromagnetic Waves
A sightseeing bus crashes, and three Photon Power Laboratory mechanics—Kasuga, Kaga, and Yokoi—go missing. Professor Yumi notes that only their bodies remain unfound among the casualties and suspects an abduction. Doctor Hell indeed captures the three men and places them under hypnosis. Baron Ashura forces the hypnotized mechanics to pilot the Mechanical Beasts Megalon P1, P2, and P3. Each Megalon emits electromagnetic waves from its head to disable enemy robots. Kasuga’s son, Hiroshi, believes his father died in the accident and asks Koji Kabuto to train him for revenge against Doctor Hell. Koji refuses and tells Hiroshi to believe his father is alive. The three Megalons appear from different directions. Aphrodite A launches to intercept Megalon P2, but electromagnetic waves from the beast’s head freeze her movements. Mazinger Z also struggles against the wave attacks. Baron Ashura confronts Shiro and Hiroshi at a grave site, and Megalon P1 appears carrying the hypnotized Kasuga. Professor Yumi informs Koji that the captured mechanics pilot the enemy beasts, forcing Koji to consider retreat. Megalon P1 pursues aggressively, and Koji fights back. He breaks off one of Megalon P2’s horns with a ramming attack. Megalon P1 and P3 arrive and disable Mazinger Z with combined electromagnetic waves. Koji separates the Hover Pilder from Mazinger Z’s body and launches missiles from the air. The Megalons take flight and freeze the Hover Pilder with more waves, then aim their dissolving rays at Mazinger Z’s immobilized body. The three professors complete an electromagnetic wave elimination gun. Aphrodite A brings the gun and fires it, restoring the Hover Pilder’s functions. The Pilder fires missiles, forcing Megalon P3 to make an emergency landing. Hover missiles strike the necks of Megalon P1 and P2, severing their heads. Mazinger Z destroys the two beasts with the Photon Beam and Breast Fire. The hypnosis on the three mechanics breaks, and Koji rescues them unharmed. Doctor Hell’s next assault will deploy the three-headed Mechanical Beast Cerberus J3, armed with ultrasonic waves, dissolving liquid, and high-pressure heat rays.
32The Terrible Three-Headed Mecha-Beast
Dr. Hell dispatches a new flying mechanical beast,Cerberus J3 (also known as Gelbros J3), to attack the city. Mazinger Z engages the three-headed monster but cannot pursue it through the air due to a lack of flight capability. The battle ends with both robots heavily damaged, forcing them to retreat for repairs. Koji Kabuto observes his younger brother Shiro playing with a model airplane at the Photon Power Laboratory. This sight gives Koji a tactical idea for countering the flying enemy. He modifies Aphrodite A's breast missiles, making them larger and more powerful than their standard configuration. Koji pilots Mazinger Z to grab these modified missiles and uses their thrust to achieve temporary flight. This improvised aerial maneuver allows Mazinger Z to catch up to Cerberus J3 at high altitude. Koji lands decisive blows on the three-headed mechanical beast with Mazinger Z's Rocket Punches. The attack destroys Cerberus J3 and ends the immediate threat to the city. The victory reveals Mazinger Z's vulnerability to airborne opponents without a dedicated flight system. Dr. Hell observes the battle and orders the development of a new mechanical beast designed to exploit this weakness.
33The Great Airstrike! Baras K9 In The Sky's Limit
Professor Yumi travels to New York to meet Professor Smith,a rocket engineering authority, seeking a solution to Mazinger Z's inability to fight airborne mechanical beasts. They complete a blueprint for flight equipment. Dr. Hell's spy Riko, working as Smith's assistant, reports their progress to Baron Ashura. On the return flight, the mechanical beast Baras K9 attacks and forces the plane to crash. Baron Ashura takes Professor Yumi and the other passengers hostage. Baron Ashura demands Koji Kabuto surrender Mazinger Z in exchange for the hostages' lives. Koji arrives in the Hover Pilder and faces Baras K9, which flies freely while Mazinger Z remains grounded. Baras K9 darkens the Pilder's windshield, blinding Koji. Koji activates the radar system to track the enemy. He waits for Baras K9 to pause mid-flight, then fires the Photon Beam and destroys the mechanical beast. Koji rescues the hostages. Although Baron Ashura fails to kill Koji or secure Mazinger Z, he successfully steals the flight blueprints and delivers them to Dr. Hell. Professor Yumi memorized every detail of the plans and returns to the Photon Power Laboratory ready to recreate them from memory. With Dr. Hell now holding the blueprints for Mazinger's flight system, the battle for control of the skies begins.
34紅い稲妻空を飛ぶマジンガー
Doctor Hell learns from his spy Rico that the Photon Power Laboratory nears completion of the Jet Scrander,a device that grants Mazinger Z flight capability. Doctor Hell orders Baron Ashura to deploy the flying Kikaiju Genocider F9. Genocider F9 attacks a port, drawing Kouji Kabuto and Mazinger Z away from the laboratory. The Kikaiju then turns back and assaults the Photon Power Laboratory directly. Inside the laboratory, Rico reveals his identity as a cyborg spy, kills several scientists, and disables the laboratory's protective barrier. Sayaka and Shiro discover Rico's betrayal too late to stop the damage. Genocider F9 bombards the facility, seeking to destroy the incomplete Jet Scrander. The Jet Scrander, constructed from Super Alloy Z, withstands the assault. Professor Yumi orders the Jet Scrander launched toward Mazinger Z before the laboratory collapses. Mazinger Z jumps and docks with the Jet Scrander in mid-air, achieving flight for the first time. Kouji struggles to control the new flight system during combat. He maintains distance from Genocider F9 and destroys the Kikaiju with a Photon Power Beam. The Photon Power Laboratory suffers near-total destruction from the battle. Although Mazinger Z now commands the skies, Doctor Hell sends a new Kikaiju named Deathmas to finish off the crippled laboratory.
35The Reaper Mechanical Beast Deathma`s Fierce Attack
Archduke Gorgon launches Operation Infernal Swamp against the Photon Power Laboratory. The mechanical beast Ghoul approaches the laboratory and releases a solvent rain that turns the ground into a bottomless swamp. Kouji and Sayaka launch Mazinger Z and Aphrodite A to intercept the threat. The solvent rain transforms the battlefield, and both robots sink rapidly into the liquefied earth. Professor Yumi warns Kouji that the robots will descend into magma and melt completely if they do not escape. Kouji attempts to launch the Jet Scrander for flight, but the orientation signals fail, preventing deployment. Gorgon orders the mechanical beast Dollghost Beta-5 to prevent any rescue. Boss hears about Sayakas danger and pilots the Borot to pull the sinking robots from the swamp. The Borots chain attaches to Mazinger Z, and Boss struggles against the immense weight as he hauls the robot upward. Dollghost Beta-5 attacks the Borot while Boss strains to complete the rescue. Mazinger Z emerges from the swamp, and Kouji destroys the attacking mechanical beast. Diana A remains covered in mud, and Kouji jokes about giving the robot a bath, defusing the immediate tension. Gorgon retreats to plan a new assault on the Photon Power Laboratory.
36Episode 36
A mysterious monster terrorizes boaters on Lake Hamanaka. Boss witnesses the creature during a nighttime fishing trip and reports it to Koji, who dismisses the claim. Shiro believes Boss and joins him, Nuke, and Mucha for a second investigation. The mechanical beast Granada E3, a whale-like machine, swallows the boat with Shiro, Nuke, and Mucha inside while Boss escapes. Shiro manages to send a distress signal, prompting Koji and Sayaka to launch. A disguised old woman claiming to control a curse confronts them at the lake. Sayaka engages the woman in hand-to-hand combat but falls into the water and gets swallowed by Granada E3. Professor Yumi arrives and explains that five lakes in the region connect through underground passages, allowing the monster to vanish and reappear. Koji pilots Mazinger Z into the tunnels and corners the mechanical beast. The old woman reveals herself as Baron Ashura, who threatens to kill the hostages. Ashura admits the monster collects uranium from the lakebed to build a nuclear device for Doctor Hell. The monster retreats, but Sayaka and the children escape from inside its body by swimming through the cooling water tank released as a geyser. Freed from hostage concerns, Mazinger Z re-engages Granada E3 in an aerial battle and destroys it with the Breast Fire. At the episode's close, Sayaka and the boys go to the hospital for radiation exposure checks, and Koji laughs at their contaminated state. Next, a disguised Iron Mask infiltrates the Photon Power Institute and plants a proton bomb on the Jet Scrander.
37The Devastating Scrander - Darkness's Messenger
Doctor Smith,an American scientist who previously consulted on the Jet Scrander, visits the Photon Power Laboratory. Baron Ashura sent the visitor, who is an imposter and a masked assassin, to plant a proton bomb on the Scrander. The laboratory's tight security prevents the saboteur from planting the bomb immediately. To create a distraction, Baron Ashura deploys the mechanical beast Rokuron Q9. The beast captures both Sayaka Yumi and Boss, holding them suspended in mid-air. Ashura demands Kouji Kabuto face the monster at Tenchigahara if he wants the hostages freed. Kabuto launches in Mazinger Z to confront Rokuron Q9, which can turn invisible and evade radar. During the battle, Kabuto realizes the beast's main body remains static near the hostages and attacks it directly. The Photon Force Beam damages the main body, forcing the beast to transform into an aerial combat mode. The saboteur takes advantage of the battle to plant the proton bomb on the Jet Scrander. A security guard witnesses the act and receives a fatal wound, but his report alerts Dr. Yumi to the sabotage. Dr. Yumi confronts the imposter, who shoots him, but Yumi's pressure and coordination with guards result in the assassin's death. Kabuto calls for the Jet Scrander, unaware of the bomb, but Yumi orders him to abort the docking at the last second. The Scrander returns to the laboratory, where technicians remove the proton bomb before relaunching it. Mazinger Z combines with the Scrander and destroys Rokuron Q9 with the Photon Force Beam and the Jet Scrander's capabilities. The episode ends with the Scrander's reliability proven despite the sabotage attempt, while new threats continue to emerge from Dr. Hell's forces.
38Minerva X - The Mysterious Robot
Dr. Hell builds Minerva X from Professor Kabuto's stolen blueprints. The female-shaped robot attacks the Photonic Power Laboratory but stops fighting upon encountering Mazinger Z. Minerva X sheds tears and walks away while Koji Kabuto mocks her as a mechanical beast. Professor Yumi reveals that Minerva X was originally designed as Mazinger Z's partner. Her internal partner circuit recognizes Mazinger Z's radio waves and automatically guides her to support him. Dr. Hell lacks Super Alloy Z and Photonic Energy,so he builds her from inferior super steel and nuclear power. These substitute materials cause her circuits to overheat, requiring cooling oil that falls like tears. After repairing her partner circuit, Minerva X goes on a date with Mazinger Z, making Sayaka Yumi jealous. The mechanical beast Archean J5 attacks the laboratory. Minerva X fights alongside Mazinger Z and destroys the beast's head with her Photonic Beam. Archean J5 fires a final arrow that shatters Minerva X's partner circuit. Baron Ashura takes control of her and directs her toward Mount Fuji's nuclear power plant. Professor Yumi gives Koji a new partner circuit to restore Minerva X. Mazinger Z pursues her, but she ignores his calls and continues toward the nuclear reactor. Aphrodite A fires missiles to stop her advance. Koji attaches the new circuit to the fallen Minerva X, and she regains her original heart before expiring with tears. The research team sends Minerva X's body into the sea with a bouquet of flowers. A new enemy commander, Count Brocken, appears to challenge Mazinger Z in the following episode.
43Assault!! The Invading Paratroopers
Count Brocken approaches the Photon Power Laboratory with a new mechanical beast,Gyron J1, and offers a truce. He demands the mutual destruction of both Gyron J1 and Mazinger Z as the condition for peace. Koji Kabuto rejects the proposal and decides to fight to the end. He launches Mazinger Z and engages Gyron J1 in combat, but the mechanical beast proves stronger than expected and pushes Mazinger Z into a difficult struggle. While Koji fights, Count Brocken orders the Iron Cross Corps to parachute from the flying fortress Ghoul. The troops land at the Photon Power Laboratory and begin occupying the facility. Professor Yumi tries to escape using the newly repaired Jet Scrander, but enemy forces capture him before he can get away. With the professor in their hands and the laboratory under occupation, Brocken gains a significant advantage. Mazinger Z returns to the laboratory, calls the Jet Scrander, and turns the tide of battle. The combined power of Mazinger Z and the Jet Scrander defeats Gyron J1 and forces Count Brocken and his invading troops to retreat. The laboratory remains damaged and Professor Yumi stays in enemy captivity, leaving the defense of the Photon Power Laboratory uncertain for the immediate future.
44Great Charge!! The New Underwater Fortress - Bood
Baron Ashura completes construction of the new submarine fortress Bood and launches the mechanical beast Rod R2 to attack the city. Koji Kabuto sorties in Mazinger Z while Sayaka Yomi follows in Aphrodite A. Rod R2 fires solar rays from its belt buckle and splits Aphrodite A in two with a single blast. Mazinger Z also struggles against the solar rays, and the ensuing battle damages half the city. Clouds cover the sun, and Rod R2 loses its power source, forcing it to retreat. Koji pursues the mechanical beast with the Jet Scrander, chasing it across the sky and then over the ocean. At the ocean floor, Mazinger Z encounters the new fortress Bood. Baron Ashura attacks from Bood, and Koji withdraws Mazinger Z from the engagement. Rod R2 returns to attack the Photon Power Laboratory. This time, the mechanical beast detaches its helmet, which flies above the clouds to collect solar energy even on a cloudy day. Rod R2 fires concentrated solar beams at Mazinger Z immediately after Koji deploys the Scrander Cross. Professor Yumi observes the battle and advises Koji to target the helmet collecting the solar energy. Mazinger Z attacks Rod R2 with Breast Fire and Photon Power Beams while attempting to destroy the helmet. The helmet proves more durable than expected, and Rod R2 assaults the Photon Power Laboratory directly. Koji destroys the helmet with sustained fire from Mazinger Z. Without solar energy, Rod R2 loses its primary weapon. Mazinger Z destroys the mechanical beast's head with the Photon Power Beam and finishes it with the Rocket Punch. Baron Ashura retreats with the undamaged fortress Bood, still determined to destroy the Photon Power Laboratory.
45Photonic Energy Research Lab - The Target of Evil!
The Photonic Energy Research Laboratory holds a celebration for its tenth anniversary. Doctor Hell dispatches the mechanical beast Bazil F7 to attack the facility during the party. The alarm operator hesitates to trigger a warning and instead asks Boss and his gang to deliver the message secretly. Sayaka launches in Aphrodite A,but the enemy deploys a radio wave jammer. The jammer turns Aphrodite A's missiles against her own position. Mazinger Z launches but also cannot move under the jamming field. The three scientists devise a countermeasure using Aphrodite A's high-voltage current. Helker from the Iron Mask Corps attacks Aphrodite A before she can act. The Hover Pilder drives Helker away, and Aphrodite A discharges the full current into Mazinger Z. The current neutralizes the jammer and restores Mazinger Z's functions. Mazinger Z arrives to stop Bazil F7 from reaching the laboratory. The mechanical beast uses its head guillotine to cut Mazinger Z's leg and pins the robot down. Koji fires the Photonic Beam to distract the enemy. He deploys the Jet Scrander to escape, but a missile destroys the flight unit. The Rust Hurricane has no effect on Bazil F7. Koji launches a simultaneous Rocket Punch and Breast Fire attack, which finally shatters the mechanical beast. The next conflict introduces two twin mechanical beasts that have mastered ancient ninja techniques.
46忍法ふたご機械獣登場
Dr. Hell deploys two human-sized mechanical ninja twins,Brozas S1 and S2, to plant cobalt bombs inside the Photon Power Laboratory. The twins take up position near the base but discover an abandoned infant named Shinichi. The baby's cries force the mechanical ninjas to retreat temporarily. Koji Kabuto and the base staff find Shinichi in a basket with a letter from his mother, Risa, a widowed woman who lost her husband to a traffic accident and now suffers from a terminal illness. Unable to work, she left her son at the laboratory to prevent a family suicide. Koji races to find Risa before she harms herself. Meanwhile, the Brozas twins secretly attach two cobalt bombs to the walls of the pool from which Mazinger Z launches. Risa stands on a cliff edge ready to jump but overhears Baron Ashura discussing the bomb plot with the mechanical ninjas. The twins spot her and give chase. Koji arrives and fights one of the Brozas units but struggles until Boss and his gang rescue him and Risa. After regaining consciousness, Risa warns the group about the bombs. Boss rushes back to the base and alerts Koji just as he prepares to board Mazinger Z. Koji discovers that wires connect the bombs to the launch pool, and touching them would trigger an explosion. Shinichi accidentally activates an emergency stop system, and Boss arrives with Risa's warning, averting the disaster. Baron Ashura takes Risa, Mucha, and Nuke hostage to pressure Koji. Koji deploys the Jet Scrander to startle Ashura and free the captives. He then fires the Photon Beam at the fleeing Brozas twins and destroys both mechanical beasts. Risa abandons her suicide plan and chooses to live as Shinichi's mother. Dr. Hell prepares a massive assault called Hell's Double Operation, deploying both Baron Ashura and Count Brocken with two mechanical beasts to annihilate Mazinger Z and the Photon Power Laboratory in the next episode.
47Episode 47
Dr. Hell orders Baron Ashura and Count Brocken to execute a joint operation against the Photon Power Laboratory. Baron Ashura pilots the mechanical beast Mandora M3 and attacks a cargo ship to lure Mazinger Z out to sea. Koji Kabuto launches Mazinger Z and pursues Mandora M3 underwater, ignoring Professor Yumi's orders. Count Brocken uses the distraction to assault the laboratory with the mechanical beast Bazlar Q5. Baron Ashura, unwilling to let Brocken claim victory, abandons the trap and directs Mandora M3 to attack the laboratory instead. The two mechanical beasts engage each other in a fierce battle, allowing Mazinger Z to escape the seabed and arrive at the damaged laboratory. Dr. Hell orders both beasts to retreat after they sustain damage from their infighting. Baron Ashura and Count Brocken launch a second attack, this time faking a conflict to draw Mazinger Z into a crossfire. Koji recalls his morning kendo training as the two beasts fire simultaneously from opposite sides. Mazinger Z jumps to evade both salvos, and the missiles strike the opposing mechanical beasts instead. Koji destroys the damaged Mandora M3 and Bazlar Q5 with a Breast Fire attack. With Mazinger Z temporarily out of action due to Koji's injuries, Boss announces his determination to build his own robot to defend the laboratory.
48Boss Borot Sentou Kaishi!!
Three professors disappear from the Photon Power Laboratory, and their communicator falls at the facility. Investigators find a toy pistol at the scene, and the reconstruction plans remain untouched. The kidnappers force the three professors to build a robot from scrap metal. Boss and his gang reveal themselves as the kidnappers. The mechanical beast Kajimof T7 attacks the city of Numazu. Sayaka pilots Aphrodite A to intercept the beast but cannot match its power. Koji launches Mazinger Z and initially overwhelms Kajimof T7. Before Koji fires the Breast Fire, Kajimof T7 exploits the opening and strikes Mazinger Z with simultaneous heat rays and missile barrage, knocking the robot unconscious. The beast advances toward the Photon Power Laboratory. Boss debuts his newly completed robot, Boss Borot, built entirely from discarded scrap. Baron Ashura mistakes Boss Borot for one of Count Blocken's mechanical beasts. Boss Borot's arm melts under the enemy's heat rays, but its raw brute force crushes Kajimof T7's arm. Aphrodite A breaks the beast's other arm. Mazinger Z recovers and finishes Kajimof T7 with the Breast Fire. Koji refuses to acknowledge Boss Borot's contribution to the victory and instead takes Sayaka to a luxury restaurant. Count Brocken prepares to hypnotize Boss into destroying the Photon Power Laboratory.
49The Insane Robot's Desperate Battle
Count Brocken dispatches the mechanical beast Gambina M5 to the Photon Power Laboratory. Gambina M5 fires a hypnotic ray at Boss, who operates Boss Borot. The hypnosis makes Boss attack the laboratory to prove his worth against Koji Kabuto. Koji attempts to launch Mazinger Z, but Boss Borot sits on top of the Mazinger before Koji can dock the Hover Pilder. Koji spins Boss Borot around until it becomes dizzy, then boards Mazinger Z. Boss Borot follows Brocken's commands and lures Mazinger Z toward Gambina M5. The two robots attack Mazinger Z together. Boss Borot pins down Mazinger Z with its superior strength. Gambina M5 destroys Mazinger Z's heat sinks and absorbs most of its photonic energy. Koji deploys the Jet Scrander to escape into the air. Mazinger Z fires a Rocket Punch from above, knocking Boss Borot unconscious. Gambina M5 captures the Jet Scrander with its tentacles. Koji releases the Scrander and drops down, delivering a powerful kick that crushes Gambina M5's head. Aphrodite A launches missiles that destroy the remaining body of Gambina M5. The hypnosis on Boss ends after the battle. Koji decides to destroy Boss Borot with a Missile Punch as punishment for damaging the laboratory. Shiro and Sayaka plead with Koji to spare the robot, and Koji sees Boss's genuine attachment to Boss Borot. Koji cancels the destruction order. The next episode preview shows the Jet Scrander getting shot down in battle.
50Shot Down!! The Jet Scrander
Count Brocken sends the mechanical beast Breeba A3 to attack the Photon Power Laboratory. Boss Borot engages the beast and easily tears it apart, but the destruction reveals a trap. Breeba A3's head separates from its body and silently follows Boss Borot back toward the laboratory. Aphrodite A also falls for the same deception, and both pilots believe they have destroyed the enemy. The separated head then closes in on the Photon Power Laboratory while remaining undetected. Mazinger Z launches to intercept the threat, but Breeba A3 splits into upper and lower sections. The head executes a precise attack that shoots down the Jet Scrander, stripping Mazinger Z of its flight capability. Koji Kabuto continues the battle on the ground, where the mechanical beast's relentless assault pushes Mazinger Z into a difficult position. Aphrodite A cannot match Breeba A3's power, leaving Boss Borot as the only available unit to change the situation. Sayaka asks Boss to search the forest for the downed Jet Scrander. Boss Borot locates the wreckage, but the Scrander's engine has sustained critical damage, and no time remains to mount it on the catapult. Professor Yumi orders Boss to throw the Jet Scrander directly to Mazinger Z. Boss Borot hurls the flight unit, and Mazinger Z successfully docks with it in mid-air. Mazinger Z fires the Photonic Beam to bring down the head, but Ghoul arrives to provide air support for Breeba A3, putting Mazinger at a disadvantage in the sky. Koji lures Breeba A3 back to the ground and destroys its head with a Rocket Punch. The Rust Hurricane then pulverizes the scattered body sections. A new crisis begins when Baron Ashura places a bounty on Koji Kabuto's head, and the Skull Gang moves to collect it.
52Koji in a Pinch! Sayaka Mazinger Sortie!
Shiro accidentally sends his Mazinger Z toy through a bathroom window while Sayaka bathes. He tries to retrieve the toy with a fishing rod but pulls away her towel instead and runs off. Sayaka assumes Koji spied on her and attacks him in anger, ignoring his denials. Their fight escalates through the room until Dr. Yumi interrupts with a warning about a Mechanical Beast attack. The enemy, Bazuson M1, demonstrates the ability to cut through Super Alloy Z. Sayaka refuses to assist Koji during the battle, still furious over the misunderstanding. Koji tackles the beast alone and forces it to retreat, but suffers critical injuries. Sayaka apologizes to the unconscious Koji and kisses him, feeling responsible for his condition. When Bazuson returns and heads toward a hospital for disabled children, Boss and his gang evacuate the children in Boss Borot while Sayaka pilots Mazinger Z. Koji boards Aphrodite A after hearing Mazinger depart, and the two swap robots mid-air to regain control of their own machines. They defeat Bazuson through coordinated teamwork. After the battle, Koji pretends to die in Sayaka's arms, prompting her to confess her love, then reveals the trick and teases her. The episode ends with the pair resuming their argument.
53Double Transformation! The Camouflage Mechanical Beast
The Iron Cross Group attacks the Fuji observation post. Sayaka and Shiro,on a ski trip, attempt to descend the mountain to warn the Photonic Energy Laboratory but the enemy ambushes them and knocks them off a cliff. Koji launches Mazinger Z to rescue the two, but heavy snowfall stops the giant robot cold. Count Brocken, seeing the laboratory left unguarded, sends the mechanical beast Brogun G3 to assault the facility. The situation leaves Koji with only one option to bring Mazinger Z down the mountain: equipping the robot with giant skis for a direct, high-speed downhill run. Brogun G3 uses its camouflage ability to blend into the snowy environment, making it difficult for Mazinger Z to target. The mechanical beast also possesses a double transformation capability, changing its form to launch surprise attacks. Koji navigates the treacherous descent while countering Brogun G3’s deceptive assaults. The giant skis allow Mazinger Z to gain enough momentum to reach the base and engage the enemy directly. Despite the mechanical beast’s tricks, Mazinger Z destroys Brogun G3 with its Rocket Punch. With the immediate threat eliminated, Count Brocken retreats, but the laboratory remains vulnerable to the next wave of Dr. Hell’s forces.
54Explosion!! The Powerful Rocket Punch!!
Baron Ashura launches the turtle-shaped mechanical beast Jeiser J1 to attack the Photonic Power Laboratory. Koji Kabuto sorties in Mazinger Z to intercept the enemy. The robot’s Super Alloy Z body has exceeded its operational lifespan, and its Photonic Energy output drops visibly during the battle. Mazinger Z retreats from the fight to avoid complete power loss. Boss Borot and Sayaka Yumi in Aphrodite A block Baron Ashura’s fierce assault on the laboratory. The research lab raises its defensive barrier to protect the facility. The barrier has a limited capacity and cannot hold indefinitely. Engineers work on an emergency upgrade to strengthen the Rocket Punch. The upgrade remains incomplete, finishing only one arm’s worth of modifications. Baron Ashura’s forces continue pressing the attack, forcing Mazinger Z to sortie again with only partial enhancements. The incomplete Rocket Punch becomes the robot’s only chance to counter the mechanical beast’s assault. The episode ends with Mazinger Z launching into battle, its missing upgrade threatening the outcome of the fight.
56The Super Alloy Z - Stolen!
Boss and his friends enjoy skiing when they witness Iron Mask and Iron Cross soldiers fighting each other. Boss captures both men and takes them to the Photon Power Laboratory for interrogation. The mechanical beast Satan Gross P10 appears and attacks Boss Borot, but retreats immediately after Mazinger Z arrives. Kouji and Sayaka question the two prisoners, who give contradictory statements about their mission. One claims the goal is to steal Super Alloy Z, while the other insists on destroying the laboratory. The conflicting stories reveal a trap set by Baron Ashura and Count Brocken to locate the alloy excavation site. Iron Mask reports that Iron Cross soldiers have planted bombs at the site, prompting Sayaka to release him. Iron Mask instead draws a gun on Sayaka, plants a transmitter at the excavation point, and dies a self-inflicted honorable death. Satan Gross P10 blocks Mazinger Z while the transmitter signal summons a second mechanical beast, Uberin T9, from underground. Uberin T9 seizes the Super Alloy Z and transfers the Japanium ore to Satan Gross P10 before Aphrodite A and Boss Borot destroy it. Mazinger Z incinerates Satan Gross P10 with the Breast Fire, but the Super Alloy Z resists melting and falls into Bood's hands. Dr. Hell now possesses the indestructible metal to build new mechanical beasts against the Photon Power Laboratory.
57Dr. Hell Seizes Japan!!
Doctor Hell launches a full-scale invasion of Japan, deploying multiple mechanical beasts in a coordinated assault. The attack focuses on capturing Mazinger Z and stealing the Super Alloy Z that powers it. Doctor Hell's forces strip the Super Alloy Z from Mazinger, leaving the robot defenseless and vulnerable. Baron Ashura and Count Brocken escalate their internal rivalry, turning their mechanical beasts against each other instead of cooperating. This infighting weakens the overall assault and creates openings for the Photonic Research Institute's defenders. Koji Kabuto loses control of Mazinger as the enemy captures the disabled robot. Doctor Yumi faces the destruction of his life's work and pushes himself to the brink of self-destruction. Sayaka Yumi and Boss launch desperate counterattacks using Aphrodite A and Boss Borot to buy time. Koji devises a quick-witted strategy that exploits the chaos between Ashura and Brocken's forces. The combined efforts of the team force Doctor Hell's army to retreat, though the Photonic Institute suffers heavy damage. The episode ends with Doctor Hell regrouping his forces, determined to conquer Japan through more unified future operations.
58Front Line Base: Hell`s Fortress!!
Doctor Hell releases Baron Ashura from imprisonment after his previous failures and assigns him to construct a forward attack base on an island near the Japanese coast. Count Brocken launches a diversionary attack to occupy the Photon Power Laboratory's attention. Iron Cross soldiers plant time bombs around Koji Kabuto's house during the night and then storm the residence with machine guns. Koji drives off the attackers and escapes via the Hover Pilder moments before his home explodes. The Mechanical Beast Gian F3,with a body nearly three times Mazinger Z's size and shovel-equipped arms, appears as the second phase of Brocken's plan. Mazinger Z struggles against the giant machine and attempts to destroy its caterpillar treads with the Photon Beam. The energy reserves deplete before Mazinger Z can finish the task, leaving it vulnerable to Gian F3's attacks. Koji ejects from Mazinger Z to conserve remaining power. Aphrodite A arrives on the battlefield and destroys Gian F3's treads with missiles. The combined attack from the Hover Pilder and Aphrodite A destroys Gian F3. Mazinger Z suffers a complete electrical short that makes further combat impossible and requires a full overhaul. During the repair downtime, Doctor Hell completes Hell Castle and deploys the Mechanical Beast Titarn G9 to attack the city. The episode closes with Mazinger Z's overhaul unfinished as Titarn G9 advances toward the city.
59The Devil Declares War On Hell Island
Count Brocken deploys the massive mechanical beast Titan G9 to attack the city while Doctor Hell completes construction of Hell Castle. Aphrodite A and Boss Borot engage Titan G9 but cannot stop its advance toward the Photon Power Laboratory. The three professors perform maintenance on Mazinger Z and delay its deployment to install a new weapon. Koji Kabuto uses the Hover Pilder to distract Titan G9,but Hell Castle completes a long-range missile launch system. Count Brocken's parachute troops begin their assault on the laboratory, placing the facility in critical danger. The overhaul finishes, and Mazinger Z launches to confront Titan G9. Mazinger Z catches a metal club thrown by Titan G9, but the club explodes on contact, and Titan G9 stomps on Mazinger Z's foot, immobilizing the robot. The new weapon, Iron Cutter, deploys from both of Mazinger Z's arms as blades extending from the Rocket Punch. The Iron Cutter destroys one leg of Titan G9, and the Double Iron Cutter finishes the mechanical beast. Doctor Hell completes his forward base on Hell Island, and Koji Kabuto moves into the Photon Power Laboratory to prepare for the escalating conflict.
60Mazinger Z Launches Its Secret Weapon!!
Dr. Hell launches countless missiles from Hell Castle toward the Photonic Energy Research Lab. Koji Kabuto sorties in Mazinger Z to intercept the barrage and minimize damage to the facility. The missile attack serves as a diversion for the mechanical beast Deathcross V9. While Mazinger Z engages the missiles,Deathcross V9 strikes the undefended laboratory. Dr. Hell devised this simultaneous two-front assault to overwhelm the lab's defenses. Baron Ashura and Count Brocken, however, cannot coordinate their efforts during the operation. Their personal rivalry and open disagreement cause the attack plan to break apart. Seizing the opportunity, Mazinger Z returns to confront Deathcross V9 directly. Aphrodite A, now equipped with rapid-fire missiles, joins the battle alongside Mazinger Z. The two robots combine their firepower against the mechanical beast. The enemy commanders' infighting prevents Dr. Hell's strategy from achieving a decisive victory. The Photonic Energy Research Lab remains standing, but Dr. Hell's forces continue to scheme for the next assault.
61The Song Of Rhine X1 - The Robot's Destiny
Shiro rescues a young woman named Lorelei from the Iron Mask forces. Her father,Dr. Heinrich, previously constructed mechanical beasts for Dr. Hell but fled with his daughter. Dr. Heinrich dies from his injuries and confesses on his deathbed that Lorelei is a cyborg. He reveals his dream of building a robot superior to Mazinger Z, a dream realized in Lorelei's creation. Lorelei decides to fulfill her late father's ambition by challenging Mazinger Z to combat. The mechanical beast River F9 also appears to support Lorelei's assault. Koji launches Mazinger Z to counter the dual threat. Lorelei pilots the Rhine X1 robot against Mazinger Z in a direct confrontation. The battle tests Koji's ability to fight an opponent driven by filial devotion rather than Dr. Hell's orders. The episode ends with Mazinger Z locked in combat with Rhine X1 as the cyborg Lorelei pushes her inherited machine to its limits.
64Woman 007 VS The Demon Slayer Brocken
Count Brocken orchestrates a multi-phase attack on the Photon Power Laboratory. Iron Masks facilitate the escape of three violent criminals from a prison transport. The fugitives storm the research center and take control of the facility. Koji Kabuto attempts to intervene but suffers a gunshot wound to his leg. The mechanical beast Devil Chief A7 launches its assault on the laboratory. The beast destroys the pool exit mechanism, trapping Mazinger Z underwater. Boss introduces his cousin Misato, who has come to stay at the laboratory. Misato takes charge of the situation despite Sayaka Yumi's objections. She offers to pilot a helicopter and successfully subdues the three criminals. Koji climbs aboard the Hover Pilder despite his injury and summons Mazinger Z. The super robot breaks out of the damaged hangar and engages Devil Chief A7 in a fierce battle. Misato restores order to the research center after neutralizing the criminal threat. With the laboratory secure for now, Count Brocken must devise a new strategy to destroy Mazinger Z.
65The Balloon Bomb Carried By The Wind
Professor Yumi appoints Sayaka as a formal member of the Photon Power Laboratory for her recent performance. Balloon bombs suddenly appear over the city and explode, including strikes at Tojo Academy. Koji launches Mazinger Z to intercept the balloons heading toward the laboratory. A magnetic field released from the balloons pulls Mazinger Z into the sea and disables it. Dr. Hell's Mechanical Beast Marion P3 approaches the laboratory while Mazinger Z remains disabled. Sayaka pilots Aphrodite A and Boss launches Boss Borot to defend, but their Iron Cutter attacks fail against the enemy. Professor Yumi calls out to Koji, who regains consciousness and forces Mazinger Z to escape from underwater despite magnetic wave damage. Marion P3 heads to destroy the laboratory, and its Iron Cutter bites into Mazinger Z's Jet Scrander, preventing flight. A cobalt bomb from Marion P3's head strikes Mazinger Z directly, slamming it to the ground. Aphrodite A distracts Marion P3 long enough to destroy both of the Mechanical Beast's Iron Cutters. Mazinger Z separates its Scrander and engages Marion P3 on the ground, struggling against the enemy's continuous high jump kicks. Marion P3 misses an attack and sinks its feet deep into the ground, losing mobility. Mazinger Z counters with a combined assault of Drill Missiles, Rocket Punch, Breast Fire, and Photon Beam to destroy Marion P3. The balloon bombs served only as a decoy, and the next threat arrives as the invisible assassin Mechanical Beast Genova M9 begins attacking jetliners.
67Don't Cry Koji! Risk Your Life On The Cross
Koji Kabuto dreams of a woman fleeing the Iron Mask Corps and then rescues her in reality. The woman,Erika, has no clear memories except fragments of a Mechanical Beast attack. The Photon Power Laboratory takes Erika in for observation and protection. While bringing her coffee, Koji suffers an attack from behind by an assailant using a wristwatch chain. Sayaka arrives with a bat and drives the attacker away, but Erika has disappeared from the room. Sayaka accuses Erika based on the identical perfume smell, but Misato counters that the perfume naturally fills the entire room. Koji takes Erika inside Mazinger Z to locate the terrain from her memory fragments. Heavy rain forces them to take shelter in a mountain hut, where they dry their clothes. Erika tells Koji she has never experienced embarrassment or laughter before that moment. Inside a cave at the identified location, Ashura Baron reveals Erika as Espionage M1, a cyborg assassin created to destroy Koji. Erika hesitates and refuses to carry out the execution, turning against Ashura Baron. The Mechanical Beast Montos Q3 attacks the city while Afrodai A and Boss Borot fail to stop it. Before Iron Mask soldiers shoot her down, Erika reveals Montos Q3's sole weakness: its forehead. Koji fires the Drill Missile and destroys the Mechanical Beast. Erika collapses in a pose resembling a cross and dies. Koji throws her cross pendant into the sky. Episode 68 introduces Duke Gorgon, a new enforcer from Hell who even Dr. Hell fears.
