Tomoko Matsushima

Tomoko Matsushima is a Japanese actress and voice actress born on July 10, 1945, in China. Her career in entertainment began in 1952, and she was active in Japanese cinema throughout the 1950s, appearing in numerous live-action films for studios like Toho, including roles in the popular Sazae-san film series. Her transition to voice acting started in the late 1950s with work in animated features. One of her earliest and most notable voice roles from this period was providing the voice for the character Okei-chan in the 1959 animated film Magic Boy (Shōnen Sarutobi Sasuke). She also voiced the character of Okei-chan in the 1959 film Shōnen Sarutobi Sasuke.
Matsushima's voice acting career continued into the following decades. She is known for voicing the character Princess Aya in the 1961 Toei Animation film The Littlest Warrior (Anju to Zushioumaru). In 1974, she contributed her voice to the Mazinger Z Vs. Dr. Hell film, an entry in the popular Mazinger Z franchise. Notably, she was one of the actresses to voice the iconic heroine Sayaka Yumi in the original Mazinger Z television series, performing the role for the first thirteen episodes. Later, in 1981, she took on the role of Anne Sullivan in the biographical anime special Helen Keller Monogatari: Ai to Hikari no Tenshi, which tells the story of Helen Keller and her teacher. Her career in the entertainment industry has been a long one, with her most recent credited work appearing as late as 2025.
