Description
Baron Ashura is a composite being, a singular entity created from the remains of two separate individuals. In ancient times, a man and a woman who shared a forbidden love were punished by being mummified and entombed. Centuries later, the cave holding their bodies collapsed, destroying the man's right side and the woman's left side. Upon discovering these mummies, the villainous Dr. Hell surgically sewed the intact halves together, reanimating the fused form as a loyal servant which he named Baron Ashura. This origin results in a striking physical duality, with Ashura possessing a male left half and a female right half. This duality extends to their voice, which can shift between a deep masculine tone and a softer feminine one depending on the situation.

Personality-wise, Baron Ashura is defined by an intense and nearly unshakeable loyalty to Dr. Hell, who is seen as their savior and master. They are driven by a desperate need for Dr. Hell's approval and fear failure above all else. This devotion is coupled with a cruel and maniacal disposition, as Ashura shows no remorse when commanding Mechanical Beasts to destroy cities and cause mass casualties. They are also notably overconfident and arrogant, a flaw that frequently contributes to their plans being thwarted by the hero Koji Kabuto and the giant robot Mazinger Z. Ashura harbors a fierce rivalry with Count Brocken, another of Dr. Hell's lieutenants, and the two are constantly bickering and sabotaging each other's missions in an attempt to gain their master's favor. Despite this animosity, there is an underlying mutual respect between them. Ashura's primary motivation is to serve Dr. Hell's goals of world conquest, a task they pursue with ruthless determination, whether by leading armies of Mechanical Beasts or through more subtle means of manipulation and disguise.

In the narrative of Mazinger Z: Infinity, Baron Ashura returns as a significant antagonist, having survived or been resurrected from their previous defeats. Decades after Dr. Hell's original downfall, Ashura commands a rebuilt army of Mechanical Beasts. They orchestrate a devastating surprise attack on a Photonic Power Plant in Texas, where they personally pilot a giant Mechanical Beast modeled after their own fused form. In this assault, they defeat the hero Tetsuya Tsurugi and the super-robot Great Mazinger, using the captured pilot as a component to activate the ultimate weapon, Infinity. Ashura's role is to act as a key enforcer in Dr. Hell's grand scheme, which involves resetting the universe. The character's key relationships from the original series carry into the film, as they are shown cooperating with their old rival, Count Brocken, in the final battle. Their deep-seated loyalty to Dr. Hell remains the core of their motivation, driving them to participate in his plan for global domination and universal judgment.

Throughout the story of Infinity, Baron Ashura demonstrates notable abilities both in and out of combat. They are a skilled strategist and commander, capable of leading large-scale military operations against fortified positions. Their signature tool is the Bardos Wand, a rod that allows them to control the army of Mechanical Beasts. Ashura is also a master of disguise, frequently using their female half to appear as an alluring woman to infiltrate enemy facilities and manipulate others. In direct combat, Ashura pilots a custom Mechanical Beast that reflects their own dual nature. This machine possesses powerful offensive capabilities, including the ability to separate its male and female halves to trap opponents and unleash powerful electric attacks. In the film's climax, Baron Ashura and Count Brocken pilot their respective Mechanical Beasts in a final, coordinated assault on Mazinger Z, attempting to crush the hero robot in a pincer attack. This final confrontation highlights Ashura's role as a direct and powerful physical threat, even in the face of the upgraded Mazinger Z.
