Kim Seokok
Description
Kim Seokok was a South Korean actress and voice actor. She was born on January 13, 1938, in Seoul, during the period of Japanese rule. She began her career in the voice acting industry in 1961 as a member of the inaugural recruitment class for the MBC Voice Actor Association. Later, on April 1, 2004, she retired from voice acting to transition fully to on-screen acting roles.
Her voice acting portfolio included several prominent animated series. Among her most recognized roles was providing the voice for the female side of the character Baron Ashura in the classic anime series Mazinger Z. Her other animation work included the film adaptation of Galaxy Express 999, the series My Annie of the Alps, and the series Princess Knight, where she voiced both the character Cheek and the Queen. Additional animated credits featured roles in Typhoon Boy, The Magic Princess, Wild Rose, Girl Candy, and Cute Angie.
Beyond animation, Kim Seokok also lent her voice to foreign films dubbed for Korean audiences, including the 1959 historical epic Ben-Hur.
Following her voice acting career, she appeared in several television dramas. Her roles included a recurring part as Mrs. Jo, the stepmother of Queen Inhyeon, in the 1988 drama Queen Inhyeon, a role she later reprised in the 2002 series Jang Hee-bin. She also made cameo appearances as herself in the sitcoms Three Friends in 2000 and Lovers in 2001.
