Masami Kikuchi
Description
Masami Kikuchi is a veteran Japanese voice actor and narrator with a career spanning over four decades, known for his versatile portrayals of youthful protagonists and supporting characters in numerous major anime franchises. He was born on April 24, 1960, in Nagano Prefecture. Kikuchi made his professional debut in 1983 with a minor role in the anime Aura Battler Dunbine. He landed his first leading role in 1985 as Mike Coil in Ninja Senshi Tobikage (Ninja Robots).
Kikuchi is celebrated for several iconic roles that have defined his career. He is the original voice of Tenchi Masaki, the hapless but kind-hearted protagonist at the center of the sprawling Tenchi Muyo! franchise, beginning with the 1992 OVA. He also provided the voice for the earnest college student Keiichi Morisato in Ah! My Goddess! across various adaptations from the 1990s to the 2000s. Another significant early role was Kaine Wakaba in the 1987 mecha series Metal Armor Dragonar. His filmography also includes the title role of Baki Hanma in the 2001 Grappler Baki series and Wing in the 1999 Hunter × Hunter adaptation.
Kikuchi has a particularly long and deep association with the Digimon anime series. He first voiced the responsible glasses-wearing DigiDestined Joe Kido (known as Jō Kido) in the original Digimon Adventure. He has since appeared in nearly every subsequent Digimon television series, taking on a variety of other roles, including the villainous Akihiro Kurata in Digimon Savers, the comedic Neemon in Digimon Frontier, and, more recently, Ryudamon in Digimon Ghost Game. This extensive involvement makes him one of the most frequent voice actors in the history of the TV anime franchise.
In addition to these signature roles, Kikuchi's career is marked by a wide range of performances. He voiced both Sonic the Hedgehog and Metal Sonic in the 1996 anime OVA Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie. He has also been a recurring presence in long-running series, playing Kazuhiko Hanawa in Chibi Maruko-chan, various characters in One Piece, and later roles such as Vermoud in Dragon Ball Super. His work extends to video games, where he has reprised roles like Kaine Wakaba for the Super Robot Wars series, and to dubbing foreign media, providing the Japanese voices for Skeeter Valentine in Doug and Bob the Tomato in VeggieTales.
Throughout his career, Kikuchi has been affiliated with several talent agencies. He was with Troubador Music Office until March 2010, worked as a freelancer, and then joined Kenyu Office in April 2011, where he remains. He has also frequently collaborated with fellow voice actress Yuko Mizutani across various projects.
