Description
Gen Kikura is a recurring character from the anime Beyblade: Shogun Steel. He is the owner of the Beyblade Pirate Kraken A230JSB.

Kikura originally operated as a self-appointed environmentalist at Midsummer Beach. His mission was to prevent littering and preserve the natural beauty of the shoreline by disguising himself as a fearsome "Sea Monster" to scare away tourists who left trash behind. While his initial goal was to protect the environment, he eventually came to enjoy the fright and yells of his victims, and his actions evolved from preservation into personal mischief. His antics became a local legend before he was confronted by the protagonist, Zyro Kurogane, and his friends.

In terms of appearance, Kikura has dark brown skin and distinctive white hair with red sections, which is styled in a curly manner. He typically wears goggles and a black shirt with white stripes, and his eyes bear a resemblance to those of the character Tetsuya Watarigani from previous series in the Beyblade metal saga.

Kikura possesses an eccentric and somewhat unstable personality, often compared to that of Tetsuya. He has a pronounced habit of inadvertently revealing vital information about his Beyblade's weaknesses to his opponents during conversation or battle, seemingly unaware that he is doing so until it is too late. This proves to be his most significant flaw as a blader. He also has a tendency to boast and thinks highly of his own abilities, though he is capable of being friendly when he chooses.

When Zyro and his companions arrive at Midsummer Beach, Kikura attempts to scare them as well. His costume is quickly exposed by a trap, leading to a confrontation. Kikura explains his background as an environmentalist, but the group challenges his methods after he admits to enjoying the act of terrorizing people. He first battles Kite Unabara in a Rock Stadium formed by the beach's water flow. The battle results in a prolonged, boring stalemate focused on stamina, concluding with no winner when a tide enters the arena. Following this, Zyro chooses to battle him. Kikura's Pirate Kraken has a special technique that allows it to nearly never be out-spun, but he explains that its only weakness is an attack from directly above. Zyro exploits this information, using his Samurai Ifrit to strike from the sky and knock Pirate Kraken into the water, securing a victory. After his defeat, Kikura dives into the sea to retrieve his Beyblade and is forced to leave the beach.

After departing from the beach, Kikura travels to Metal Bey City with the intention of continuing his scare tactics. He quickly encounters blader Takanosuke Shishiya and battles him. In a repeat of his previous mistake, Takanosuke independently deduces the strategy of attacking Pirate Kraken from above, learning faster than Kikura anticipated, and defeats him by once again launching the Bey into a body of water.

Kikura later enters the Neo Battle Bladers tournament but is defeated early and does not advance to the Best Eight. After the tournament concludes, he shows interest in a new world championship and, along with other bladers, registers for a rigorous training program led by Benkei Hanawa. His development shows him as a blader who, despite his theatrical and misguided nature, is dedicated to his craft and seeks to improve, even as he repeatedly falls victim to his own loose lips. His key relationships are primarily antagonistic or rival-based, centered on his battles with Zyro Kurogane and Takanosuke Shishiya.

His notable ability in battle relies on his Beyblade, Pirate Kraken, specifically its Armor 230 Spin Track, which provides a formidable defense against low and side attacks, making it nearly impossible to out-spin. However, this defensive setup is countered by high, aerial strikes.
