Mike Coil, a reserved and sensitive 15-year-old, pilots the Burst Dragon (Bakuryu) ninja robot. His bond with the impulsive Joe Maya resembles an older brother relationship despite no blood tie, forged when both discovered the crashed alien ship Xenos 5 and its occupants, leading to their ninja robot involvement. As the third pilot chosen, Mike fiercely protects Joe, defending him against critics like General Icelander and sometimes clashing physically when Joe treats their friend Jenny Ai unjustly. Though typically quiet, Mike openly challenges Joe’s insensitivity toward Jenny.

Mike tentatively develops romantic feelings for Jade (Schaffe), Princess Romina’s aide, seeking courtship advice from Joe and Jenny. These affections gradually become mutual, marking emotional growth. In combat, he completes the initial pilot trio alongside Joe and Jenny, battling the Zaboom army in Burst Dragon. This mecha combines with Cybertron (Tobikage) to form the lightning-storm-summoning dragon Kaima, though fusion occurs rarely.

His appearance features short blonde hair with wavy side fringes and dark blue eyes. He wears a red short-sleeved collared jacket over a light blue sleeveless top, light blue pants, a brown belt, brown boots, a gold blade-pendant necklace, and light brown fingerless gloves. While piloting, he removes the jacket and necklace, switching to a white high-necked short-sleeved top with red outlines, a gray belt, and white knee-length boots bearing gray pentagon designs in red trim.
