Romi Park

Description
Romi Park is a highly acclaimed Japanese voice actress and singer, born on January 22, 1972, in Tokyo. She is of Korean descent and, after graduating from the Toho Gakuen College of Drama and Music, she also studied in South Korea. Her career began in live theatre, but her path to voice acting was paved when director Yoshiyuki Tomino noticed her in a stage performance. This led to her anime debut in 1998 with a role in Tomino's series Brain Powerd. Her first major leading role came the following year as Loran Cehack in Turn A Gundam, another Tomino-directed project, which proved to be a significant breakthrough and established her ability to voice young male protagonists.

Park's career is defined by her remarkable versatility and distinctive voice, which she has lent to a wide array of characters, often those who are strong-willed, complex, or prodigious. She is widely recognized for her portrayal of the alchemist Edward Elric in the 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist and its subsequent adaptation, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. This role is frequently cited as her breakout performance and cemented her status in the industry. She also took on the part of the eccentric and brilliant Hange Zoë in the global phenomenon Attack on Titan, a role she played across multiple seasons and films, including The Final Season. Her filmography includes a vast number of other prominent roles, such as the young captain Tōshirō Hitsugaya in Bleach, the fierce Temari in Naruto, the punk rocker Nana Osaki in Nana, and Tao Ren in both the original and 2021 Shaman King series.

Throughout her long and productive career, Park has received numerous accolades recognizing her talent. She won the Voice Actor award at the Tokyo International Anime Fair in 2004 for her work on Fullmetal Alchemist. A few years later, at the inaugural Seiyu Awards in 2007, she took home the award for Best Lead Actress for her powerful performance as Nana Osaki in Nana. Beyond anime, Park has also lent her voice to video games, including Naoto Shirogane in the Persona 4 series and Pharah in the Japanese version of Overwatch. She has maintained a strong connection to her theatrical roots, returning to the stage for major productions such as the musical Les Misérables in 2019 and the stage adaptation of Spirited Away, where she played the dual roles of Yubaba and Zeniba. In 2017, she founded her own talent agency, LAL, and continues to be an active and influential figure in the industry. She has been married to fellow voice actor Kazuhiro Yamaji since 2020.
