Description
Zoë Hange served as a Scout Regiment squad leader, spearheading Titan research and experimentation. An early encounter where kicking a Titan's head revealed its abnormal lightness transformed their initial hatred into intense scientific curiosity, driving extensive research. Hange showed compassion toward captured Titans like Sawney and Beane, crying when causing them pain during experiments and experiencing profound distress at their deaths.

They played a key role in mentoring Eren Jaeger after his discovery as a Titan shifter, overseeing his transformation training. Through experimentation, Hange deduced his power activated only with a clear, emotionally driven objective, demonstrated when Eren unintentionally transformed to retrieve a teaspoon. During the 57th Exterior Scouting Mission, Hange participated in capturing the Female Titan within the Forest of Giant Trees, explaining how specialized restraints exploited Titan healing physiology. When Titans devoured the Female Titan, Hange fought to protect it per orders, only to later realize the enemy had escaped.

Following Annie Leonhart's rampage in Stohess District, Hange used capture equipment against her and later threatened the crystallized Annie, vowing to extract information. After Annie's containment, Hange observed a Titan embedded within Wall Sina. They confronted Minister Nick about this discovery, grabbing him near the Wall's edge and demanding answers about the Titans within the Walls, citing the Scouts' sacrifices as justification. Nick refused despite the threat.

Hange eventually succeeded Erwin Smith as the 14th Commander of the Scout Regiment. Their leadership emphasized strategic ingenuity, resulting in weapons like Thunder Spears. During the conflict to prevent the Rumbling, Hange prioritized protecting allies over Paradis, forming an alliance with former enemies. As Colossal Titans approached a grounded aircraft, Hange volunteered to delay them, recognizing the necessity of sacrifice. They appointed Armin Arlelt as successor, citing his intellectual curiosity as vital for humanity's future.

In their final act, Hange engaged multiple Colossal Titans alone. Despite severe burns from the Titans' heat, they destroyed several before being overwhelmed, enabling the aircraft's escape. In their final moments, Hange saw a vision depicting reunion with deceased comrades, including Erwin, implying acceptance of fate after completing their mission.

Hange exhibited a dynamic personality, displaying energetic enthusiasm for Titan research yet capable of intense focus and ruthlessness when necessary. This duality was symbolized by pushing their glasses onto their forehead, signaling their shift to a serious or threatening demeanor during interrogations or confrontations. Their leadership combined tactical brilliance with deep empathy for comrades, though the burden of command amplified their stress and resolve in later conflicts.
