TV-Series
Description
"Denno Coil" is set in a near-future world where augmented reality (AR) technology has become seamlessly integrated into everyday life. The story revolves around a group of children who navigate both the physical and digital layers of their environment, using AR glasses to interact with virtual objects and creatures. The narrative primarily follows Yuko Okonogi, a young girl who moves to Daikoku City with her family. She quickly becomes involved with a group of kids who explore the mysteries of the AR space, known as the "Denno Coil."

The AR world is populated by "illegals," unauthorized or corrupted programs that take on various forms, often resembling pets or mythical creatures. These illegals are both a source of fascination and danger, as they can disrupt the digital and physical worlds. Yuko and her friends, including Fumie, a tech-savvy girl, and Isako, a mysterious and skilled "hacker" of the AR space, investigate these anomalies while uncovering deeper secrets about the technology and its origins.

A central plot element involves the search for a legendary illegal known as "Mega-baa," a powerful and elusive entity that is said to grant wishes. As the children delve deeper into the AR world, they encounter ethical dilemmas, personal conflicts, and the consequences of blurring the lines between reality and virtuality. The story also explores themes of loss, memory, and the impact of technology on human relationships, particularly through the character of Isako, who harbors a tragic connection to the AR space.

The narrative is driven by a blend of mystery, adventure, and emotional depth, as the children confront both external threats and internal struggles. The series balances episodic explorations of the AR world with an overarching plot that gradually reveals the true nature of the technology and its effects on the characters' lives. Through its intricate storytelling and well-developed characters, "Denno Coil" presents a thought-provoking examination of a world where the boundaries between the real and the virtual are increasingly indistinct.

1Children of the Coil
Yasako Okonogi arrives in Daikoku City with her family and moves into her grandmother's house. Her grandmother,Megumi, operates a cyber-divination shop that helps residents manage virtual objects overlaid on the city. Yasako wears a pair of cyber glasses that let her see digital creatures and data debris. She brings her virtual pet, a dog named Densuke, who follows her commands. Fumie, a local girl who is part of a hacker group called the Coil Hunters, approaches Yasako and explains the rules of the city's digital space. Fumie warns Yasako about illegal software called 'Salmons' that can infect and transform virtual pets. While exploring the city, Yasako spots a large salmon-like creature glitching through buildings. A mysterious girl named Isako appears and uses a forbidden technique to capture the salmon, converting it into a small cube. Isako then disappears without explanation. Yasako notices that Densuke begins to act strangely, flickering and emitting error messages. Later, Densuke transforms into a salmon-like virus and escapes from Yasako's control. Yasako chases the infected Densuke through the city as the digital environment starts to malfunction around her.
2Episode 2
Yasako transfers into Daikoku Elementary School and sits next to Fumie. Fumie demonstrates how to adjust digital glasses to filter classroom noise. Kyoko complains to Yasako about the school's strict no-pets rule for virtual creatures. During recess,Haraken shows Yasako a map of illegal hotspots marked by students. A small dog-like illegal appears in the schoolyard and no one else notices it except Yasako. Fumie explains that illegals are decaying data fragments that can corrupt working virtual objects. The school's Satchii patrol units ignore the illegal because it stays in an unregulated zone. Yasako follows the illegal after school to an abandoned building on the edge of the city. Inside, the illegal merges with other fragments to form a larger creature that emits electromagnetic interference. Yasako's glasses display garbled images and her navigation tools fail. She recalls her grandmother's metatag stored in her pocket and activates it. The metatag emits a cleansing pulse that scatters the large illegal into smaller pieces. Fumie arrives and reveals that her older brother went missing while investigating a similar illegal two years ago. Yasako promises to help Fumie find answers. On a distant rooftop, Isako observes the event and uses a remote command to delete the remaining illegal fragments. Yasako spots Isako's silhouette and understands he controls power beyond normal metatags. She decides to track Isako down to learn why he hunts illegals and what he knows about the disappearances.
3Yuko and Yuko
Yasako and her friends observe a new girl entering a restricted cyber space. The girl introduces herself as Yuko but insists others call her Isako. Isako carries a small black cyber creature that devours cyberbugs and illegal spaces. The Coil Police, led by Haraken, arrive to stop Isako because her creature's feeding generates unstable stray data. Haraken explains that uncontrolled data decay causes permanent damage to the city's cyber infrastructure. Isako ignores the warning and commands her creature to consume a large illegal space. The creature grows agitated and begins consuming ordinary cyber objects, including a bridge and nearby road surfaces. Its eyes turn red, and it stops responding to Isako's commands. Yasako uses her grandmother's metatag to emit a stabilizing signal, temporarily calming the creature. Isako recalls the creature into its container. After the Coil Police clean up the residual data, Isako reveals that she searches for her brother, who vanished into a cyber space accident. She believes the deepest layers of the city's illegal spaces hold the key to finding him. Yasako agrees to help Isako despite Haraken's warning that Isako's methods will eventually destroy the city. Yasako's decision to help Isako sets her against the Coil Police, with the city's cyber stability hanging in the balance.
4Coil Market
Yasako and Fumie hear rumors about a hidden black market for illegal software. They follow a trail of encrypted messages to a back alley in the real world. A boy named Haraken opens a virtual portal that leads to the Coil Market. The market appears as a crowded bazaar of floating icons and holographic displays. Sellers offer forbidden metatags, viruses, and hacked tools. Haraken demonstrates a program that can steal another user's virtual pet. He offers to sell it to Yasako, but she hesitates. Isako arrives and purchases a dangerous bug designed to crash other people's systems. The security system of the city detects the illegal transaction and sends enforcement agents. The group escapes through a network of backdoors that Haraken controls. Yasako keeps a small anti-virus program that Haraken gives her for free. The episode closes with Isako walking away, her eyes fixed on a new target.

20Kanna and Yasako
Yasako awakens in Megabaa's home after Tamako and Megabaa rescue her from the attacking dark illegals. Megabaa stabilizes Yasako's cyber-body using a rare Coil tag, revealing that Tamako learned to craft such tags four years prior. Tamako accesses the city's server and detects unusual residual data in an old district. Nekome reports a new victim: an eleven-year-old boy who lost his glasses. Tamako immediately suspects Haraken and rushes out on her motorcycle. Yasako follows Tamako to the Megamass control center, insisting she can sense where Haraken has gone. Tamako confirms Haraken used Kanna's glasses to enter the other side. While Yasako and Tamako search the foggy old zone, Fumie stays behind as Megabaa explains the origins of the Coil Domain and the illegal creatures called Nulls. Megabaa recounts that four years ago, a young encoder named Michiko successfully performed a ritual that opened a gate to the other side. This phenomenon, the separation of the cyber-body from the physical body, became known as the Dennou Coil. Tamako, Megabaa's former disciple, once attempted to replicate this ritual but Megabaa stopped her. In the fog zone, Yasako separates from Tamako to find Haraken alone. Illegals swarm Yasako, and her cyber-body detaches as a door opens before her. Isako arrives and confronts Tamako as the zone formatting alarm sounds. Tamako's upgraded Pochi attacks the approaching format modules but struggles against their firepower. Yasako wanders through a misty city of illegals until Isako's voice guides her. Isako sends a kirabug through a wall to transfer a ring to Yasako, telling her she has little time. Haraken walks through the fog and finds Kanna's digital apparition. Yasako catches up to him as he refuses to leave, insisting the figure before him is Kanna. Yasako hears the illegal speak the name 'Ken'ichi' and realizes Kanna's consciousness resides within the creature.
21The Black Automaton
First and Third elementary schools merge their classes on the top floor of a Megamass office building. The new classroom environment places Yasako,Isako, and their peers in closer proximity to the corporation's central facilities. Isako discovers that Megamass conducts research on obsolete space and the effects of the Cyber Coil phenomenon. The company's conspiracy involves studying the dangerous boundary between the virtual and real worlds. Haraken remains unconscious in the real world after his previous attempt to enter the other side. Yasako worries about his condition while trying to understand why he cannot wake up. Isako reveals more details about her brother's disappearance and Megamass's role in covering up the incident. The corporation treats the Imago-related accidents as sensitive information that threatens its business operations. Isako warns Yasako to stay away from obsolete spaces where Imago reacts with the environment. The episode establishes Megamass as a direct antagonist actively manipulating events behind the scenes. The merged classes create new social dynamics while the children uncover fragments of the company's hidden agenda. Yasako faces the immediate challenge of navigating both school life and the growing threat from Megamass's surveillance.
22Last Resort
Isako reaches the core of the old Megamass server where her brother's digital ghost resides. Yasako and Haraken follow Isako into the restricted zone, ignoring Daichi's warnings. The 4423 virus manifests as a massive, swirling entity that absorbs surrounding digital matter. Haraken admits that he has carried a fragment of the virus since his childhood exposure. Isako activates the Last Resort program, which begins extracting her brother's ghost from the virus. The extraction process destabilizes the virus, causing it to expand and threaten the real world through illegal cyber-illusions. Yasako uses her decoding goggles to try to isolate the virus's core from Haraken's body. The virus latches onto Haraken, pulling him into the data stream as he volunteers to contain it. Isako's brother's ghost briefly appears but fades when the program overloads. Yasako grabs Haraken's hand as he dissolves, but only his glasses remain in her grasp. The virus shrinks into a small, glowing object that Yasako holds, and Isako collapses in shock. Yasako faces the choice of using the object to restore Haraken or to complete Isako's original goal.
23The Last Sougi
The Sougi activation erases large sections of the digital city. Yasako watches the destruction spread outward from the forbidden domain. Isako enters the Sougi's core to reach her brother Haraken's data. Yasako follows Isako into the collapsing space. The black hair entity, formed from corrupted metadata, attacks both girls. Yasako uses her grandmother's glasses to perceive the entity's true structure. She sees that the entity contains Haraken's lingering consciousness. Isako refuses to retreat and attempts to merge with the Sougi. The Sougi's erasure wave accelerates, deleting nearby buildings and illegals. Fumie and Daichi evacuate the area with other children. They lose contact with Yasako as the digital environment distorts. Yasako grabs Isako's hand and tries to pull her away from the Sougi's core. Isako screams that she cannot leave her brother again. The Sougi's core expands and pulls both girls inside. Yasako and Isako now face complete erasure of their digital selves inside the Sougi's void, and the erasure threatens to break through into the real world's infrastructure.
24The Last Keyboard
Isako carries the last keyboard into the core of the illegal space. The 4423 virus manifests as a giant version of her deceased brother. Isako intends to activate the keyboard to execute the revival program. Yuuko shouts that the revival will cause the illegal space to overwrite the real world. The virus attacks Yuuko and Haraken with digital beams. Haraken uses his hacking glasses to redirect the attacks. Isako hesitates but then presses the keyboard's enter key. The virus absorbs all illegal matter in the vicinity. The ground beneath the characters begins to dissolve. Real-world buildings flicker and lose solidity. Yuuko grabs Isako's hand and tries to pull her away. The entire city starts collapsing into digital noise as the illegal space expands without limit.
