Description
Hamutz Meseta is Acting Director of the Bantorra Library, a first-class Armed Librarian, and the organization's strongest combatant. Her childhood was marked by traumatic experiments conducted by Makia, where she and her only friend, Chacoly Cocotte, were programmed to eliminate Ruruta Coozancoona. Chacoly was engineered to love Ruruta, while Hamutz was altered to derive pleasure from pain and dying, deeply shaping her psychology.
Physically, she has fair skin, long dark blue hair often worn down with a large dark ribbon partially tying it, and red eyes. Her typical attire includes a white button-up shirt featuring a small, periodically altered embroidered bunny patch on the right breast, paired with black pants. Before becoming an Armed Librarian, she wore a red blouse, brown skirt, and spectacles.
Hamutz balances a fun-loving, easy-going exterior with a cold-blooded, battle-lusting interior. Programmed to enjoy mortality, she actively seeks opponents capable of killing her, though moments of fear, like when encountering Niniu, reveal underlying vulnerability. Minth's "Sacred Eyes" perceive intense self-loathing, a void-like thought process, and a deep-seated yearning for love within her. She harbors a fondness for rabbits and coffee. Her bond with Chacoly, her sole comfort during the experiments, nullifies Chacoly's mind-control abilities. A significant past connection exists with Mattalast Ballory.
Her primary combat weapon is a sling usually wrapped around her right wrist. She employs it for long-range sniping with uncanny precision and force, launching projectiles at speeds exceeding five times the speed of sound. These projectiles range from small rocks to larger objects and can sometimes inject sensations. Her signature magical ability, "Sensory Fibers," emits over a billion energy strands detecting touch and sound across approximately 50 kilometers, though it becomes ineffective during storms. A latent ability allows her to temporarily recall the "books" (souls) of deceased individuals familiar to her and force Book Eaters to consume books they otherwise would not, proving pivotal in conflicts within Ruruta's non-entity entrails.
Makia's conditioning grants her immortality within Ruruta's inner world, as her brainwashing replaces the feeling of loss associated with death with pleasure; this immortality does not explicitly extend to the physical world. Initially appearing villainous, such as when destroying the Smokeship and catalyzing Volken Macmani's rebellion, she shifts toward a more nuanced leadership role. Though often motivated by whimsy or battle lust, she gradually displays concealed care for comrades. Culminating against Ruruta, she summons fallen allies like Volken to aid her, acknowledging their importance, and uses her temporary resurrection ability, underscoring a departure from pure self-destruction toward reliance on others.
