Description
Loran Cehack is the main protagonist of the Turn A Gundam series. He is a seventeen-year-old boy of Moonrace origin, born on the moon in an underground community. He was selected along with his friends Keith and Fran for a reconnaissance mission to assess whether Earth was habitable for the Moonrace's planned return. After landing on Earth, he was rescued from drowning by the Heim family sisters, Sochie and Kihel, and subsequently integrated into their household as a chauffeur and mechanic. Over two years, he developed a deep affection for Earth and its people, choosing to participate in a local coming-of-age ceremony as a way of becoming a true member of the community.

Loran possesses a gentle, kind-hearted, and adaptable personality. He is deeply loyal, especially to Queen Dianna Soreil, and holds a firm belief in her vision of peaceful coexistence between the Moonrace and the people of Earth. He is not a natural warrior; he is a reluctant pilot who would much rather use the Turn A Gundam for domestic chores than for battle. However, beneath his mild and accommodating demeanor lies a resolute core: he is firmly committed to protecting human life and will fight anyone who does not share that value, regardless of which side they belong to. His effeminate appearance and gentle nature lead others to give him the nickname Laura, which he later adopts as the alias Laura Rolla when forced by the Earth Militia leader Guin to disguise himself as a female pilot for propaganda purposes.

His primary motivation is to end the conflict between Earth and the Moon without unnecessary bloodshed. He is caught in a painful internal struggle between his loyalty to his Moonrace origins and his desire to protect his Earth friends. He consistently advocates for negotiation and understanding, striving to serve as a bridge between the two civilizations. Loran's role in the story is that of a peacemaker and reluctant hero. He is the designated pilot of the WD-M01 Turn A Gundam, which he excavates from the White Doll statue on the night of the Moonrace's first attack. He uses the mobile suit to support the Earth Militia while simultaneously trying to foster dialogue and prevent escalation.

His key relationships include his bond with the Heim family, particularly with the sisters Sochie and Kihel. Sochie develops romantic feelings for him over the course of the series. He shares a deep, unwavering loyalty to Queen Dianna Soreil, whose ideals he believes in completely. His friendship with his fellow Moonrace scouts Keith and Fran also remains a constant. His relationship with the ambitious lord Guin is complex, as Guin manipulates Loran for his own ends while also developing a possessive interest in him.

Throughout the series, Loran undergoes considerable development. Initially a somewhat naive and physically weak youth due to genetic frailty, he becomes stronger and more decisive through his experiences on Earth. He matures into a capable and determined individual who is able to make difficult choices, even when it means sacrificing personal happiness. His piloting skills improve dramatically over time, allowing him to match or even surpass ace-level Moonrace pilots in combat. He maintains a strong ethical code in battle, typically aiming to disable enemy mobile suits rather than kill their pilots, though he is capable of decisive action when lives are at stake.

Notable abilities include his natural mechanical aptitude, which made him valuable to the Heim family, and his exceptional skill as a mobile suit pilot. He demonstrates a unique ability to handle the Turn A Gundam's devastating potential with restraint and creativity. He famously uses the mobile suit for non-combat purposes such as drying laundry, transporting cattle, and serving as a makeshift bridge. He is also one of the few pilots capable of using the Turn A's forbidden nuclear weapons and its Moonlight Butterfly system when the situation demands it, always in service of protecting rather than destroying.
