Description
Lucas Nemesis, whose real name is Lucas Kankaansyrjä, is a character who appears in both Gundam Build Fighters and Gundam Build Fighters Try. He is the grandson of Josef Kankaansyrjä, the chairman of the Finnish Gunpla team Nemesis, and serves as the team's youngest exclusive fighter. In his childhood, he traveled to Japan with his grandfather, who promised him the trophy of the seventh Gunpla Battle World Championships as a birthday gift and invested heavily in the Flana Institute to secure that victory. However, during the semi-final round of that tournament, Aila Jyrkiäinen betrayed Team Nemesis and told Lucas that if he wanted to win at Gunpla Battle, he needed to compete himself rather than relying on hired fighters.

Seven years later, Lucas had become the undefeated European Junior Champion in Gunpla Battle, holding that title for three consecutive years. He moved to Japan to continue his studies at Granada Academy, where he became the leader of the school's Gunpla Battle team, Team Von Braun. He entered Japan's national tournament and the fourteenth World Championship under the alias Lucas Nemesis, piloting the XM-X1 Crossbone Gundam X-1 Full Cloth.

Lucas is initially portrayed as cocky and haughty, displaying great confidence in his piloting skills. He believes strongly in his own abilities and carries himself with an air of superiority that matches his undefeated record in Europe. Despite this arrogance, he is a serious and dedicated fighter who values skill over shortcuts, a lesson he learned from Aila's earlier betrayal. As the story progresses, he shows respect for strong opponents and acknowledges the growth of others, such as Sekai Kamiki and the Try Fighters.

His role in Gundam Build Fighters Try is that of a major rival. He first appears as a mysterious and powerful figure, defeating Team White Wolf single-handedly in the quarterfinals of the national tournament, demonstrating overwhelming combat prowess. In the semifinals, he faces the Gunpla Academy team and puts up a fierce fight, but ultimately loses after a close battle. After his defeat, he apologizes to Sekai for not being able to fight him in the final round, but expresses that he will be waiting one step ahead, hinting at a future meeting on the world stage.

Lucas's key relationships include his grandfather Josef, who initially tried to buy his success; Aila Jyrkiäinen, whose betrayal forced him to rely on his own skill; and Sekai Kamiki, whom he acknowledges as a worthy future opponent. He also works closely with his two teammates in Team Von Braun, who pilot customized Geara Doga units that serve as mobile energy refueling stations for his Crossbone Full Cloth, compensating for its high power consumption.

His development is significant: he transitions from a spoiled child who expected victory to be handed to him into a champion who earns his place through hard work and genuine talent. He becomes a fighter respected for his abilities rather than his family's money.

Notable abilities include exceptional piloting skill, which allows him to dominate opponents with the Crossbone Gundam X-1 Full Cloth's versatile arsenal—including beam crossbows, anchor hooks, foot spikes, and punch daggers. However, his fighting style is hampered by the unit's enormous energy drain, requiring constant replenishment from his teammates. This tactical weakness is a deliberate narrative element that shows even top-tier fighters have limitations. Despite this, Lucas is regarded as one of the strongest Build Fighters in the series, and his defeat at the hands of Gunpla Academy is considered a testament to that team's strength rather than any failing on his part.
