During a space-time distortion event, Shimaboshi witnesses an injured Rufflet approaching the village and observes Alec aiding it despite sealed gates. This prompts Shimaboshi to advocate for an expedition into the distortion zone to assess its danger. The mission leads Shimaboshi's team into conflict with an Alpha Garchomp menacing a pair of Abomasnow and their wounded Snover offspring.

Observing Alec's successful treatment of the Snover and compassionate methods reshapes Shimaboshi's viewpoint. Following the expedition's triumph—bolstered by a Hisuian Zoroark's mysterious intervention that drives off the Garchomp—Shimaboshi establishes the Survey Corps.
