Description
Akane Owari is a student of Class 77-B at Hope's Peak Academy, where she holds the title of the Ultimate Gymnast. She grew up in extreme poverty as the oldest of several siblings, facing frequent starvation and witnessing dead bodies from a young age. Sexual harassment was a norm in her early life, which contributed to her developing exceptional parkour skills. A gymnastics coach, despite inappropriate behavior, eventually persuaded her to join the sport, and she began gymnastics to earn money, allowing her family to move to a new home. Akane is brash, energetic, and impulsive, with a deep love for both food and fighting. She prefers to solve problems with her fists rather than through careful planning. Despite her easygoing and aloof nature, she is fiercely loyal and protective toward her friends, especially those she perceives as weak or hungry. She is not particularly intellectual but possesses a sharp intuition and a keen sense of smell. Due to her traumatic past, she has a casual attitude toward nudity and harassment that disturbs others, and she maintains a deep-seated fear of ghosts. In the Despair Arc, she is frequently seen engaging in physical training or combat with her classmate Nekomaru Nidai, who serves as both a rival and a coach figure, and she greatly appreciates Teruteru Hanamura’s cooking. When she and her classmates witness the execution of Chiaki Nanami broadcast by Junko Enoshima, they fall into despair and become members of Ultimate Despair. As a Remnant of Despair, Akane adopts a shorter hairstyle and a torn white coat, participating in spreading despair across the world. Her abilities include extraordinary, naturally developed gymnastics talent, superhuman agility, strength, and endurance, as well as parkour and hand-to-hand combat skills. In the Hope Arc, after rehabilitation, Akane and her class fake their deaths and accept permanent exile on Jabberwock Island to atone. They intervene to stop Ryota Mitarai’s global brainwashing broadcast, with Akane demonstrating her combat skills by deflecting thrown knives with her teeth. After the broadcast is halted, she and her class claim responsibility for the Final Killing Game to protect the Future Foundation, cementing their life in secluded exile on the island.
